The rotating carousel of midfield targets has seen Man Utd cycle through Alex Scott, but their prospects have just been boosted.
Of all the midfield targets for Man Utd, Alex Scott of Bournemouth has largely remained in the background compared to the likes of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, etc.
The name was pushed even further back recently as the Cherries moved to secure his long-term future by extending his contract.
However, David Ornstein’s latest update on his future shows all is not as simple as it seems, and it opens the gate for Man Utd, through which they have already passed.

Alex Scott transfer latest
Unlike, say Newcastle, Bournemouth have always been a club who have positioned themselves as a stepping stone for players.
This season alone, the likes of Rayan and Eli Junior Kroupi have joined Scott in exit rumours.
What they do focus on is getting the right value for those players, which allows them to keep the virtuous cycle ticking.
It’s why they moved to extend Scott’s contract, because it’s fair to assume that a release clause would have been added into the new terms.
His current deal ends in 2028, so the Cherries’ position is weakening.
As per The Athletic, Scott is in no mood to strengthen that position, rejecting the contract extension offer, which now looks ‘unlikely’.
Just like that, the one stumbling block to a deal for United is wiped away, as the deal would have been done on Bournemouth’s terms otherwise.
As it stands, Bournemouth need to sell Scott this summer to prevent him from going into the final 12 months of the season this time next summer.
Man Utd enter Alex Scott race
Scott wouldn’t have rejected that extension offer if he didn’t know that there were other teams willing to snap him up.
Pick your DREAM summer midfield rebuild within the reported budgets…
Who is the first name you want?
Enter Man Utd, as the report above states that United have already inquired to know the potential cost of operation to bring Scott to Old Trafford.
The timing of United’s inquiry matches too conveniently with Scott rejecting the extension for it to be a coincidence.
Expect Scott’s name to keep coming up in reports, especially if United strike out on Elliot Anderson.
A midfield rebuild of Alex Scott, Ederson, and Mateus Fernandes finely combines two young but PL-proven players with high ceilings, and a warrior midfielder who relishes the dirty work.
