Champions League star compared to Eden Hazard hints at transfer wish after Manchester United interest

Manchester United need attacking reinforcements this summer and whilst a striker will be the priority, more creativity is needed too.

Manchester United drew 2-2 at Everton on Saturday, scoring two second-half goals to salvage a point on the road.

Ruben Amorim is still seeking major improvements for United and attacking concerns remain prevalent at Old Trafford.

30 goals in 26 Premier League games simply isn’t good enough for United and Amorim must solve this problem in the summer.

A new striker may well be a priority with United still interested in signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Creative options are needed just as much as goalscorers though and one potential target is now angling for a summer transfer.

Champions League star hints at transfer wish after Manchester United interest

Back in August, United were linked with Edon Zhegrova with the Lille winger catching the eye.

No deal was done before the summer deadline but Zhegrova certainly appeared to be a name to keep tabs on this season, especially with United interested in Lille teammate Jonathan David.

The Kosovo international has hit eight goals and two assists this season and has really caught the eye in the Champions League.

Zhegrova is out of contract in 2026 and has now hinted at his desire to leave Lille at the end of the season.

Speaking to Radio Dukagjini in Kosovo, Zhegrova admitted that he has already told Lille that he won’t be extending his contract.

That leaves Lille with two options – sell Zhegrova this summer or see him leave for nothing in 2026.

“I informed the club that I will not renew my contract. We will see what will happen this summer, but the club has been informed of my wish. I will not renew my contract,” said Zhegrova, as quoted and translated by Get French Football News.

United will surely have kept tabs on Zhegrova this season, but any summer move surely depends on whether Amorim believes that the right-sided winger can make an impact more centrally in his 3-4-2-1 system.

Who is United-linked Edon Zhegrova?

Zhegrova was born in Germany but represents Kosovo on the international stage.

The 25-year-old spent time with Flamurtari, Prishtina, Standard Liege and Sint-Truiden before joining Genk in 2017.

A 2019 loan move to Basel resulted in a permanent move and his fine displays in Switzerland convinced Lille to pounce in 2022.

Zhegrova terrorised Real Madrid earlier this season and has been compared to Eden Hazard by LiveFoot in France thanks to his dribbling ability.

United’s desire for attacking quality may well convince Amorim to consider wingers as well as attacking midfielders, and Zhegrova’s desire to move on from Lille should put him in mind for the summer window.
