Manchester United are hoping to make Bryan Mbeumo this summer’s second major signing after Matheus Cunha.

The 26-year-old has emerged as a serious target for the Red Devils.

Ineos have been working to sign the Brentford standout for over a week, after Manchester United’s first bid for Bryan Mbeumo was rejected.

This offer was worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons, which was a strong opening bid for Mbeumo, with an improved offer long considered imminent.

United’s signing of Mbeumo is expected to be completed this month; however, Ineos cannot afford to hesitate over their offers and must wrap up the signing with interest from other clubs remaining.

In particular, Tottenham could challenge United for Mbeumo as the North London side prepares to appoint Thomas Frank as manager, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Latest on Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo would be a game-changing addition for United, with his speed something which Ruben Amorim’s side currently lacks.

It would be a real coup, and now, despite the silence around the deal, United in Focus has spoken with transfer expert Graeme Bailey to learn that Mbeumo remains on the cards.

“It’s ongoing, obviously Brentford have their valuation and I think it won’t be south of the Cunha fee, potentially even more, and obviously the two clubs aren’t there yet. We know Mbeumo briefed that he wants to join United, and they remain firm favourites. However, United will be wary of the Tottenham factor.

“With Thomas Frank arriving at Tottenham, do they suddenly become an active option for him? I believe he will know over the next week or so if that is the case, but it is impossible to dismiss Tottenham at this point. Until Mbeumo is standing at Old Trafford with a scarf, anything can happen.

“United are the strong firm favourites, but there is something there with Tottenham, they are lying in wait, considering entering the race, and definitely one to keep an eye on. Mbeumo will have to move his family from London, which he wouldn’t have to if he joined Tottenham. It’s up to United to go and get it done now, he’s done his part and given them all the confidence that he wants the move.”

“We’ll know very soon.”

United could sign Mbeumo tomorrow if they reach Brentford’s asking price, and it really shouldn’t take too much longer before an agreement is found, with there being probably £10m at most between the valuations of the first bid and Brentford’s demands.

Manchester United must complete Bryan Mbeumo deal or walk away

The deal to sign Mbeumo will now be of the utmost importance, following the announcement that Matheus Cunha has officially joined United.

Negotiations for Cunha were smooth considering it was a release clause; however, talks for Mbeumo are beginning to drag on into the transfer saga territory, and really, Ineos don’t have time this summer to spend so long on deals. This is due to the fact that multiple more signings and departures must be completed.

So this weekend should be a crucial stage in United’s bid to sign him, otherwise Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell will likely be wondering whether they should walk away.

Hopefully, the interest results in Mbeumo in a United shirt over the next few weeks.
