Manchester United may finally be nearing a second summer signing to follow Matheus Cunha through the doors at Old Trafford.

June is heading into its final stages, with the transfer window now wide open and will be until the 1st of September.

The window has been open for 13 days in total this summer, and Manchester United have completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a fee of £62.5m over three years.

Since then, there have been few public movements around any other deal, with all news of a number nine going quiet. This happened after Viktor Gyokeres chose Arsenal over United last week.

However, Ineos remains committed to strengthening the attacking options at Ruben Amorim’s disposal, with Bryan Mbeumo looking likely to be the next name through the door at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United latest

It has been two weeks since United’s first bid to sign Mbeumo was rejected, an offer that was said to have been worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons.

However, United have remained in daily talks with Brentford, who are known to be stubborn negotiators in the transfer market. But now, United in Focus understands, after speaking with Graeme Bailey, that an agreement is beginning to get close.

“United confidence is growing – sources believe this is getting ever closer, Mbeumo’s mind is made – there have been talks with Tottenham, but United are close now.”

United in Focus also understands that United will pay over £60m, with a fee around this level always assumed to be needed to convince Brentford to sell after seeing Cunha join for £62.5m.

All signs are pointing in the direction of Mbeumo and United being a done deal by the end of the month, with real confidence that this will be the case.

Where would Bryan Mbeumo rank in Manchester United’s most expensive signings

The deal is getting closer, and elsewhere, there have been reports that Brentford have greenlit an Mbeumo replacement, which suggests they know it is done.

So if Mbeumo arrives for a fee of around £60m, where will this stack up amongst United’s record signings?

Manchester United’s most expensive transfers of all time

  1. Paul Pogba – £89 million
  2. Antony – £81.3 million
  3. Harry Maguire – £80 million
  4. Romelu Lukaku – £75 million
  5. Jadon Sancho – £72.6 million
  6. Rasmus Hojlund – £64 million
  7. Matheus Cunha – £62.5 million
  8. Casemiro – £60 million
  9. Bryan Mbeumo £60 million **
  10. Angel di Maria – £59.7 million
  11. Mason Mount – £55 million + Add-ons
  12. Leny Yoro – £52 million + Add-ons

Mbeumo would knock Mason Mount out of the top 10, and could rank even higher depending on what the final deal reaches – although if the initial fee is lower, it might even see him outside the top 10.
