Barcelona show loan interest in Jadon Sancho but face a £15million stumbling block

A new contender has emerged for Jadon Sancho in the shape of Barcelona but the Spanish giants face a £15million problem.

It looked as though Jadon Sancho had repaired the rift between himself and Erik ten Hag when he was reintegrated with the squad this summer.

The 24-year-old even played a big role in Manchester United’s pre-season with Ten Hag giving Sancho a false-nine role during the summer friendlies.

However, when the start of the season rolled around it quickly became clear that Sancho was still at the fringes of Ten Hag’s plans.

He was named on the bench for the Community Shield clash against Manchester City and was left out of the matchday squad against Fulham for United’s Premier League opener.

It now seems inevitable that Sancho will leave United again this summer, whether that be on loan or in a permanent deal. United expect Chelsea to make a late move for Sancho, but he is also attracting interest from Barcelona.

Barcelona loan interest in Jadon Sancho

Sancho left on loan last season to reunite with Borussia Dortmund and he showed glimpses of quality but still looked a shadow of the player United signed for £73million in 2021.

However, Sancho’s performances in Germany must have caught the attention of Barcelona with Sport reporting that the Catalan giants are “keeping an eye” on him this summer.

The report adds that clubs are convinced that Sancho could leave on loan this season with no bids arriving to match United’s £35million valuation.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is keen on a loan deal for Sancho but there are concerns about his wages.

£15m stumbling block for Jadon Sancho deal

According to The Mirror, Sancho is currently on a wage of £290,000 per week. United were expected to cover a third of his wages during his Dortmund loan last season.

Barcelona are continuing to struggle financially and have had to sell players in order to register their new signings – Sancho’s wages would only add to their problems.

His wages equate to just over £15million per year which would have to be covered if a loan deal was agreed.

It is yet to be seen whether United would once again be willing to cover a portion of Sancho’s wages in order to offload him this summer.
