Manchester United are hoping to get some January business done before next week’s deadline but may already have one eye on the summer.
Ruben Amorim was never going to arrive at Manchester United, wave his magic wand and fix the club’s problems.
The new United boss has found that his task is an enormous one; a couple of positive results are followed by more problems.
Amorim would no doubt love to make sweeping changes to this United squad but the January window has been quiet.
United are in talks to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce but the young wing back would be a signing with the future in mind.
We would anticipate United being much more active come the summer transfer window and one potential signing could be a bargain addition.

Angel Gomes on his future
United will need midfield reinforcements with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen surely moving on this summer.
Quality midfielders don’t come cheap though and United would be wise to look in the direction of Angel Gomes.
The former United talent is out of contract at Lille this summer and can move on a free transfer.
Gomes has become an England international this season and his status as a free agent surely appeals to United.
Reports in November suggested that United wanted to re-sign Gomes having lost him to Lille in 2020.
It was suggested that Amorim wants Gomes at Old Trafford – and the 24-year-old would prefer to join United over other English clubs.
Gomes has now commented on his future in quotes given to Fabrizio Romano.
The Lille ace admitted that clubs are already trying to sign him, but he remains focused on the final stages of his contract in France.
Gomes claims that there are no negotiations surrounding an immediate exit and plans to stay with Lille.
“I’m aware of clubs inquiring about my situation, but I’m now completely focused on Lille,” said Gomes.
“I want to finish the season in the best way possible and then we will see what happens, I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations,” he added.
Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur battle for Gomes
Gomes felt that he had to leave United for the sake of his career back in 2020 but may have some unfinished business at Old Trafford.
Gomes was long expected to become a star at United but he chose to move on in search of opportunities elsewhere.
A return to United now would surely give Gomes more first-team action but that alleged stance of preferring a move to Old Trafford could be tested.
The Telegraph report that Tottenham Hotspur have started talks to sign Gomes to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s options.
A January deal will be tricky given Gomes’ comments, but he could be a bargain summer target for Spurs.
United will therefore face a real battle for Gomes, but will hope that his emotional ties to United can help seal a summer deal.
