Andy Mitten reveals what he has heard about Carlos Baleba ahead of the transfer window, with the Brighton star repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United for the past year.

Manchester United’s list of midfield targets for the summer is a long one.

It includes players like Aurelien Tchouameni, but there are also links to Premier League-proven stars like Elliott Anderson and Sandro Tonali.

A potential option who has been on United’s radar since last summer is Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. The Cameroon international had a difficult season in terms of replicating his performances from the previous campaign, but he remains a target for the Red Devils.

Carlos Baleba to Manchester United has gone quiet

United’s list of midfield targets shows they are evaluating several different profiles of players for a midfield revamp.

Baleba is a dedicated, protective defensive midfielder, renowned for being combative and press-resistant in the middle of the pitch.

The 22-year-old protects the midfield, but he is known for his ball-carrying skills too.

United held talks over Baleba last summer, with personal terms not a problem, but Brighton priced him out of a move. It’s thought that his price tag could decrease after a difficult campaign.

Speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, respected journalist Andy Mitten has revealed what he’s hearing when it comes to Baleba being a United target ahead of the summer transfer window.

“I’ve not heard anything on him,” Mitten said.

“You lads might have totally different to me, but I’ve not heard anything on Baleba for a long long time.

“Watch him go and sign him the day that the transfer window opens, but I’ve not I’m being honest you know not heard anything on that.”

This would suggest that United are favouring other targets ahead of Baleba, with Anderson understood to be a primary option despite his potential switch from Nottingham Forest to Premier League runners-up Man City.

Carlos Baleba has chance to shine against Man Utd on final day of the season

United travel to face Brighton in the final game of the season.

With third place secured, Michael Carrick is set to make plenty of changes to his team, with Casemiro ruled out, having played his final game for the club last week.

This means Baleba has a chance to impress against United, which could help persuade Ineos to pursue a deal this summer.

Baleba remains a player worth keeping an eye on.
