Andy Mitten has now provided an update on Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni after Manchester United’s transfer links this summer.
Aurelien Tchouameni has impressed at Real Madrid after he arrived at the La Liga club from Monaco in 2022, following Casemiro’s move to Manchester United.
However, the 26-year-old defensive midfielder, who can also play as a defender, had seen his future plunged into doubt in recent months in the Spanish capital.
Tchouameni had been linked with Man Utd, but the France international committed his long-term future to Madrid after agreeing a new deal earlier this month.

Andy Mitten claims Real Madrid could still sell Man Utd-linked Aurelien Tchouameni, despite the new deal being offered
According to ESPN, Aurelien Tchouameni’s new contract with Real Madrid is expected to last until 2031 after Los Blancos’ disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
Tchouameni had been caught in the turbulence of Madrid’s woeful season, including a dressing room altercation with teammate Federico Valverde in May.
Speaking on The Athletic’s Talk of the Devils podcast, Andy Mitten admitted that a ‘Madrid source’ said that midfielder Tchouameni could still be sold in the summer.
“It sounds like he is, but when I spoke to somebody in Madrid after he’d signed the contract, let me just read the text back, ‘They could still sell him.’ So, there you go,” he said.
“The player has obviously done well out of this; this isn’t the first time it’s happened where a Real Madrid player has benefited out of Manchester United’s interest.”
“I did some calls last week to Madrid or actually it was to the US because that’s where the journalists are covering the Spanish national team. One of the points put to me was [that] Real Madrid want to buy big, so they need to sell big.
“So who do they sell who they can get big money for? Fede Valverde has been told that he’s going to be captain – but if you don’t want to be, mate, you can come to Old Trafford as well.”

Andy Mitten says that a Man Utd move for Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni can’t be ruled out this summer
Man Utd are undergoing a large-scale midfield rebuild this summer after Casemiro’s exit from Old Trafford and an injury setback to Manuel Ugarte at the World Cup.
Mitten suggested that Madrid’s plan to tie Tchouameni down to a new contract is not a conclusive sign that Man Utd won’t try and make a move for him this summer.
“Camavinga wouldn’t bring in as much money. So that is the situation,” he added.
“Him [Tchouameni] signing a contract, I saw it sort of go off like a light ‘that’s it Man United won’t be signing him,’ I’m not quite so sure you can write off any deal until the window has closed.
“It looks improbable, it’s always looked improbable, I think the chance comes if Real Madrid decide they want to sell one of their best players because they need money, and money dictates a lot of things in football.”
Man Utd have already signed Andrey Santos from Premier League side Chelsea this summer and the Red Devils are set to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
