Manchester United are taking a fresh look at Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Aurelien Tchouameni has emerged as a potential signing for Manchester United, with the club looking for a successor to Casemiro.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are keeping “close tabs” on Tchouameni’s situation with a view to a summer transfer.

Tchouameni, 26, could be an astute signing for United, one who is already used to the unique pressures of playing for a big club with a global fanbase.

Tchouameni has been plunged into pressure at Madrid

Tchouameni signed for Real Madrid in 2022 as Casemiro’s replacement. And he knows exactly what he would be stepping into.

Real sold Casemiro to Manchester United weeks after signing Tchouameni, which ramped up the pressure on Tchouameni immediately. He was asked to fill the void created by the departure of the Champions League winner.

He has gone on to play 190 games for Real Madrid, winning the Champions League in 2023/24.

Playing for Manchester United is a big step for many players, it is one where several talented players have faltered. Not because of talent, because of pressure.

You never quite know how a player will cope, but Aurelien Tchouameni’s spell at Real Madrid gives a fairly strong indication.

If there is one club in world football that is similar to Manchester United, where players are arguably under even more pressure, it is Real Madrid.

You could even argue that one of the big reasons Casemiro has been able to handle the highs and lows of his four years at Manchester United, is the years he spent with Real Madrid.

Playing for United and Real is about more than ability, it’s about being able to handle the mental pressure, dealing with high expectations and living in the shadow of the past.

What Tchouameni said about Real Madrid

Aurelien Tchouameni spoke to the Pivot Podcast recently about his tough spell early in his Real Madrid career, realising it would either make or break him.

He explained: “I was made the scapegoat. In the first 10 to 20 minutes, the stadium booed every time I touched the ball.

“A situation like that either breaks you or you tell yourself, ‘That’s just the way it is,’ and focus on what you can control.

“The only thing I can control is my performance. The pressure at Real Madrid is on a whole other level. People comment on everything you do, whether it’s good or bad.”

He added: “Today I know that people will always talk, no matter what I do, so I just ignore it. Playing for Real Madrid is the biggest stage in sport: the pressure is a privilege.”

This is a mindset that perfectly prepares Tchouameni perfectly for playing for Manchester United, if a deal can be struck.

He has dealt with the jeers of Real Madrid. He can deal with anything thrown at him from the media and former players at Manchester United.
