Youssouf Fofana has re-emerged as a viable option for Manchester United, with the club stepping back from Manuel Ugarte.
Manchester United’s planned move for Manuel Ugarte is off, unless Paris Saint-Germain drop their asking price.
This has left United looking at alternatives, and one of these is Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.
Youssouf Fofana, 25, has one year left on his deal with the Ligue 1 club, making the France international good value for money at his £30 million asking price – £20 million cheaper than Ugarte.

AC Milan fear Manchester United
Similar to their failed pursuit of Joshua Zirkee, Italian giants AC Milan have been tracking Youssouf Fofana, but they have not yet closed the deal.
AC Milan have so far been unwilling to meet Monaco’s asking price. The Ligue 1 club are willing to sell, having already signed a replacement.
Italian source TMW report that while AC Milan are still optimistic they can do a deal for Fofana below Monaco’s £30 million demands, they are ‘scared’ of Manchester United entering the race.
Fofana has so far rejected alternative approaches, with Milan his favoured destinations so far, however, the outlet reports the Frenchman will not turn down Manchester United’s approach.
Sky Sports report Manchester United have held initial talks with Monaco over a move for Fofana. No bid has yet been made.
AC Milan have set up a contingency plan, very much alive to the face they could lose out on Fofana, despite their optimism.
TMW report they have identified Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Manu Kone as a player they could sign for half the price of Fofana.
Ugarte deal still alive at the right price
Manchester United’s move for Manuel Ugarte is not dead in the water, and could be revived if Paris Saint-Germain drop their asking price.
Ugarte has not given up on his hopes of landing a move to United, having previously agreed personal terms over a move to the Red Devils.
What happens next may be influenced by whether United can sell players. Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Hannibal could all be available at the right price.
As ever, selling players is a major challenge for United, and as we enter the final month of the transfer window, it feels like Ineos have more to do, than they have so far accomplished.
