Paul Scholes was blown away by the radical transformation of Ryan Giggs at Man Utd under Sir Alex Ferguson
Ryan Giggs was another major ‘Class of ‘92’ breakout star alongside Paul Scholes in the 1990s under legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The 52-year-old Welshman, much like Scholes, spent his entire iconic playing career at Old Trafford and hoovered up the major silverware at the Red Devils.
Speaking on The Overlap’s ‘Fan Debate’ series, Scholes was asked who the best player he played alongside and United icon Ryan Giggs stood out in his eyes.
The former Man Utd and England midfielder admitted that he was blown away by Giggs’ longevity and how the Welsh former winger adapted his position as well.
“Ryan Giggs,” Scholes said.
“Longevity, don’t get me wrong, but the way he changed himself as well, because as a young kid, he was a flying winger going past everyone.
“European nights […], he just got everyone going; given the ball, he’ll start something out of nothing and the crowd just erupts off that.
“And then going to 40 years of age playing [as a] centre midfielder as well. He was brilliant.”

How Ryan Giggs made the transition from devastating winger to important midfield presence at Man Utd
Giggs, who was part of all 13 of Man Utd’s Premier League title-winning sides, shifted from the flank as a winger to a central midfield role under Ferguson.
The United legend embraced the position change as it happened later in his career and Giggs admitted that his “experience” was the key to him playing more centrally.
“I am enjoying the role,” Giggs said, as per The Guardian in 2009.
“I am not able to run up and down the wing like I used to, so I just use my experience, either playing off the front or in central midfield.
“I have the legs of the younger lads around me to rely on and I feel quite happy in there.”
Giggs briefly played the tail end of his iconic Man Utd career under David Moyes at Old Trafford before he announced his retirement from football in 2014.
