Danny Welbeck makes no secret of his love for Manchester United.

In a recent interview, Danny Welbeck proclaimed that he would never have a bad word to say about Manchester United.

And to be fair, he has inflicted enough damage on the pitch against United since his departure in 2014, scoring eight times against us.

Welbeck is still full of love for United, the club that gave him his Premier League breakthrough, where he contributed to Premier League title success under the great Sir Alex Ferguson.

The English striker won the 2012/13 title at United, and he was agonisingly close to triumph in 2011/12. He still has not forgotten.

Welbeck’s brilliant response

Danny Welbeck took part in a Q&A with the Premier League. One of the questions asked, ‘if you could play in any game in football history, which would you choose?’.

You might think that Welbeck would choose to play in an iconic Manchester United fixture.

Instead, he had an even smarter response. He picked to play for QPR.

Not any QPR fixture – Welbeck wanted to be on the pitch to stop Sergio Aguero scoring his title-winning goal for City in May 2012.

“I would have slide tackled him out of play.

“He’s not scoring. He’s getting lifted. And then United win the league.”

Welbeck’s brilliant response was spot on.

It’s easier to make a tackle or make a block than score a goal, and Welbeck would know exactly what to do.

He was part of the United team left heartbroken on the final day of the season to lose the title on goal difference.

Welbeck aiming for World Cup

Other responses from Premier League players in the video included generic responses like ‘I’d love to play in a World Cup Final’.

Danny Welbeck is hoping to get the chance to do this for real.

Welbeck’s consistent form for Brighton this season has put him in contention to gatecrash Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

He has been named in the preliminary 55-man squad, and will find out his fate later this month.
