The Manchester United Supporters Trust have issued an instant response to Joel Glazer’s letter to the club’s fans.

Glazer responded to the MUST’s call for increased communication – on Monday – with the supporters.

He did not commit to fan involvement on the board – which is happening at Chelsea – or anything else besides being open to the government review of football in this country.

The MUST response reiterated that ‘there will be no let up’ until there is ‘a new Manchester United, with a meaningful shareholding for supporters and a meaningful say in key areas.’

They stated that they have ‘seen empty words too many times’ before and that they’d look for a mandate from their members and the fanbase at large before deciding what to do next.

They say they will only engage with this new process – which is only as yet improved communication between the owners and the fans ‘in theory’ – if the supporters want them to.

And it seems that plenty of fans on Twitter just saw the statement as empty words; too late and without a commitment to really changing or selling the club.

Who can blame them? The statement was plainly PR-speak, making no promises and remaining neutral.

It will be interesting to see what MUST’s next move is.

Meanwhile, more protests are likely at the coming home games against Leicester and Liverpool.

It’ll take more than a PR-heavy open letter to kill the momentum the anti-Glazer movement has right now and nothing within it will have done anything to ease the discontent.
