Manchester United directors hold takeover meeting and ‘leading candidate’ ahead but not confirmed

There is still activity going on behind the scenes at Manchester United in regards to the takeover proposals, despite a lack of announcements.

The ‘final’ deadline for bids passed at the end of last month, and despite an extra offer from Qatari bidder Sheikh Jassim, no preferred candidate has been named.

Sky News report Manchester United’s directors held a meeting last week to discuss the status of the takeover. Those in attendance included minority shareholders as well as the Glazers.

There is yet no firm outcome, with the Glazers not yet willing to enter exclusive negotiations with a chosen bidder.

However, it is claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s Ineos is the ‘leading candidate’.

No decision is expected before next week’s FA Cup final, the report adds.

Sheikh Jassim ‘could bid higher’

A separate report from BBC Sport claims Manchester United are alive to the possibility of yet another offer from Sheikh Jassim.

The report states: “There is a feeling Sheikh Jassim may be tempted to go higher.”

This might be the reason for the delay, with the Glazers attempting to see if they can squeeze any more money out of the process.
