Why Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s Luis Enrique verdict for PSG should be real ‘wake-up call’ for Ineos at Man Utd

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has shown Ineos what they must do at Old Trafford after his admission about Manchester United-linked Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique has been widely hailed for his massive impact at Paris Saint-Germain, including leading the Parisian club to a continental treble in the previous campaign.

The 56-year-old Spaniard is now within touching distance of leading PSG to back-to-back Champions League trophies after securing a place in the final this season.

Enrique has had his name attached to Manchester United in recent months amid Ineos searching for the long-term replacement for Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s desire to keep Luis Enrique at PSG shows the major uphill battle Man Utd face

Luis Enrique is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2027, but the former Barcelona and Spain manager is a prized asset for the Ligue 1 outfit.

PSG are keen to tie Manchester United target Luis Enrique down to a new long-term deal, which would keep him in the French capital until 2030.

United have been urged to explore a world-class manager pick ahead of Michael Carrick by some sections of the media, with Enrique being the standout pick.

However, Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now proven to Ineos that Enrique’s future is a top priority by his desire to “sign him” immediately to a new PSG contract.

“Luis Enrique, on the pitch and as a person, also, you know, an amazing person, you know, it’s [a] full package coach person — you see [in the] tough moments and best moments he’s amazing,” he told Guillem Balague’s YouTube channel.

When asked if he wants to keep Enrique for a ‘long’ time, Al-Khelaifi responded: “Sign him now. I think Spain should be proud of him and Portugal of Luis Campos.”

Ineos’ Man Utd hopes of landing Luis Enrique from PSG are all but hanging on to one crucial factor now

Enrique’s future in world football is in his hands and Ineos will need to hope that the PSG boss wants a new challenge after the Champions League final this month.

PSG will meet Arsenal at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on 30th May and winning another Champions League trophy could be the point where Enrique signs off.

The world is his oyster now, and Enrique could walk into any team in world football, having established himself (rightfully) as one of the best managers in the modern format.

Al-Khelaifi will do everything in his power to keep the ex-Barcelona and Spain boss at PSG, but the Spaniard is only coming to Man Utd if he wants a ‘new challenge.’

Ineos must now decide whether to take a risk and wait until Enrique hints at what his future looks like or simply move on to another managerial candidate pick.
