Three ways Man Utd could handle £29k-a-week ace in January with injury return imminent

Manchester United are set for the imminent return of Amad Diallo, but how should he be handled? Here are three options for United.

Amad Diallo has been out injured since pre-season after picking up an injury while in the USA on tour.

However, after months on the injured list, Amad has finally returned to full training ahead of a return to action soon.

He could be coming back at the right time, given the fact Manchester United‘s first-team right-wingers struggling to nail the spot down.

But there is no guarantee that he is set for involvement with the January transfer window also offering him loan options.

Here are the three options Amad has in January…

Keep Amad as a right-wing option

Amad showed last season at Sunderland that he is ready to be a regular starter in English football, whether that is at a Premier League level is yet to be seen.

However, the right-wing position has been a problem position this season with Antony and Facundo Pellistri both failing to make the position their own. Along with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in their limited appearances in that position.

The £29k-a-week talent has the talent to fill the position more effectively than any of the names aforementioned which is why keeping him could be the best option. Although, if Erik ten Hag isn’t keen and he isn’t going to get minutes like Pellistri hasn’t recently, then a loan might be a smarter choice.

Loan Amad out in January

If he isn’t going to be given the game time he needs, then a loan move is the ideal choice for Amad.

There has already been reported interest from multiple different teams including a return to Sunderland – which looks less likely now with Tony Mowbray’s departure.

Wolves are also said to be interested in a move according to reports last month.

At 21 years old though, Amad needs to be playing, sitting in the reserves for the remainder of the campaign would effectively guarantee he’s leaving in the summer.

On the balance of things, this is the likeliest option for Amad in the next window.

Wait until the end of the window

Alternatively, United could delay deciding the end of the window to see if Amad can impress Ten Hag to the point that he plays.

The only problem with this is Amad could be gone for the entire month at AFCON with the Ivory Coast if he is selected as part of the squad.

Therefore, for the development of Amad, it’s probably best that he is loaned out in January to ensure game time.
