Three possible summer outcomes for Marcus Rashford and Manchester United following Borussia Dortmund interest

Borussia Dortmund are the latest club to join the race to sign Marcus Rashford.

The English forward has endured a tough few seasons at Old Trafford, and after being dropped from the United first-team following the arrival of Ruben Amorim, now finds his career at a crossroads.

The forward’s off-field behaviour, which has included Rashford partying less than 48 hours before matchdays, has concerned the Manchester United manager.

Made available for transfer, Rashford, who has three-and-a-half years left on his deal, will be allowed to leave Old Trafford this month.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Borussia Dortmund, along with AC Milan, Juventus, as well as some Premier League clubs, are all ‘considering’ making a bid to sign him.

While the interested clubs weigh up their options, we’ve looked at what the future could have in store for a player who was once one of the brightest prospects to come through the United academy.

Loan performances spark Manchester United revival

Dortmund are best known for their ability to nurture talent, and although Rashford is no longer a young player, his potential has yet to be filled.

Playing at the Signal Iduna Park Stadium without the pressure of the Premier League weighing on his shoulders could allow the 27-year-old to reignite his career and recapture his best form.

Should the winger make a move to the Black and Yellows and enjoy a good second half of the season, United, and their fans, will surely welcome him back with open arms.

Disappointing loan sets up cut-price summer transfer

Should Manchester United’s owners allow the forward to leave on loan, they will be expecting him to perform so he can either return and kick on, or catch the eye of buyers ahead of the summer window.

However, one outcome the Red Devils’ decision-makers will not want is for their number 10 to leave temporarily and continue to disappoint.

Should this happen, the pressure to sell Rashford will mount, but the club will find it almost impossible to demand a good fee — and that’s without mentioning needing to find a buyer willing to match his £375,000-a-week wages (Capology).

Stays, but Rashford moves permanently in summer

Perhaps the most likely outcome for Rashford at this stage is staying at Old Trafford for the remainder of this season before moving on permanently in the summer.

Dortmund are unlikely to be able to afford to sign him outright in a few months, so this could open the door for other top European sides to strike a deal for the former England international.
