Three players Manchester United should sell in 2023

Erik ten Hag is embarking on his first full year in charge of Manchester United and we’ve taken a look at three players he should sell in 2023.

There are some, such as Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, whose contract expire in the summer of 2023 as it stands and should probably be released.

We have picked out three on longer deals who could net United some money in the year ahead…

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Ten Hag has made it clear from the outset that Diogo Dalot is his first choice right-back, with Wan-Bissaka yet to start a competitive game under the Dutchman.

Even Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof out of position are seen as more viable right-back alternatives than the Englishman at this stage.

A new right-back to offer cover and competition for Dalot is needed by the end of the year and some of the money could come from the sale of Wan-Bissaka.

In September, it was reported that John Murtough made Ten Hag reconsider selling Wan-Bissaka, which turned out to be the wrong decision and 2023 is the time to put that right.

Brandon Williams

United have Malacia and Luke Shaw at left-back, and it would take a large amount of improvement for Williams to become the man needed at right-back.

He broke into the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but it is now really hard to see where he is going to get the gametime he needs at United.

Williams is now back from the injury which wiped out his first part of the season under Ten Hag and that should make him attractive to potential suitors.

He showed he can do a job in the Premier League on loan with Norwich last term and the time feels right for him to move on.

Donny van de Beek

When Ten Hag was appointed, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Van de Beek to turn his frustrating United career around.

But his former Ajax manager has never even looked close to make him a first pick in midfield, even in pre-season before Casemiro and Christian Eriksen arrived.

If anyone would know how to use Van de Beek effectively, it should be Ten Hag but he seems to have concluded that the midfielder is not cut out for English football.

The best that can be said for Van de Beek is he offers cover for Bruno Fernandes in the number ten position but it is best for all parties if he gets a permanent exit to get his career back on track.
