Seven months of Bryan Mbeumo: Analysing initial Man Utd and Brentford fan reaction since his 2025 transfer

Bryan Mbeumo’s 2025 transfer to Old Trafford sparked an interesting reaction from not only Manchester United and Brentford fans, but also rival supporters as well.

The 26-year-old Cameroon international arrived at Manchester United with high expectations on his shoulders after his time under Thomas Frank at Brentford.

After all, Bryan Mbeumo was the main man at the Gtech Community Stadium last season, with the ex-Brentford ace netting 20 times in 42 matches for the Bees.

Manchester United fans would welcome a tried-and-tested talent to Old Trafford, while Brentford supporters would lose a key cog in the Bees’ attacking machine.

Man Utd and Brentford fans’ reactions to Bryan Mbeumo’s 2025 move to Old Trafford showed why he was worth every bit of his fee

Manchester United pursued Bryan Mbeumo over last summer’s transfer window and the Red Devils finally landed the French-born attacker with their third bid for him.

Brentford held out for an initial fee of £65m for the Cameroon forward, with Man Utd accepting a further £6m in add-ons to ensure that Mbeumo’s move was sealed.

United In Focus crawled through the initial 2025 fan reaction to Mbeumo’s transfer to United, with Red Devils supporters very much optimistic about his move.

“He’s an excellent player and should gel well with [Matheus] Cunha. Huge improvement on [Joshua] Zirkzee and [Rasmus] Hojlund,” one Man Utd fan wrote in the comments of BBC Sport’s piece in 2025.

Another simply added: “Great signing.”

Somebody else posted: “Mbuemo and Cunha are both very clever players.”

“A team player with an eye for goal. I think he will do very well,” a fourth Red Devils supporter said.

United fans were rightly optimistic about Mbeumo’s impact at Old Trafford for this season, while Brentford fans knew what they were going to lose with his 2025 exit.

One commenter wrote: “I’m a Bees fan and really sorry BM [Mbuemo] has gone, but wish him well. Didn’t realise how many [Man Utd] haters were on here, though!”

While a second Bees supporter argued: “As an age-old Brentford fan from the 1960s, I celebrate the success that Brian and his contemporaries have brought to Brentford FC. They were always in the old 3rd [and] 4th divisions back then. But now they are a force to be reckoned with. They develop players and then celebrate their moving on to larger clubs. How healthy and supportive can you be?”

Bryan Mbeumo’s influence at Man Utd in the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford shows the initial reaction was not wrong

Whether it was Ruben Amorim, Darren Fletcher or current interim boss Michael Carrick, Mbeumo has simply been undroppable for the Red Devils this season.

Mbeumo might not have hit the same numbers as his scintillating tally at Brentford last season, but his first season at Old Trafford has been incredibly strong.

The Cameroon player has netted 10 times and registered three assists in 24 matches across all competitions since his blockbuster move from Brentford last summer.

That is not to mention that Mbeumo also missed six matches across all competitions this season after he was called up for 2025 AFCON duties with Cameroon.

Reacting to his 2025 transfer to Old Trafford, one neutral supporter wrote in the comments of the BBC Sport piece at the time: “As much as I hate to say it, the revolution may have begun…”

The ‘revolution’ is far from being in full swing at Man Utd, but Mbeumo is a taste of things to come for fans if Ineos can maintain their transfer success going forward.
