‘Ruthless’… What Man Utd legend did during spell shows why Ruben Amorim signing needs to study his elite mentality

Ruben Amorim could have the perfect blueprint that one Manchester United summer signing should adopt after what one Red Devils legend showed at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager received five new summer signings before the transfer window shut for Premier League clubs on 1st September.

Ruben Amorim has bolstered his attacking options with the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko in big-money summer transfers.

Diego Leon is tipped as a long-term prospect at Old Trafford and the 18-year-old Paraguayan wonderkid became a United player after leaving his native homeland.

Joining Diego Leon, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko at Old Trafford is Senne Lammens, who is United’s fifth and final summer signing.

What Phil Jones revealed about David de Gea sets the stage for Man Utd summer signing Senne Lammens

David de Gea left Old Trafford in 2023 after 12 prolific seasons, with the 34-year-old Manchester United legend exiting the Premier League club as a free agent.

The former Spain international, who returned to football in 2024 with Fiorentina, overcame a tough start to life in England to firmly establish himself as United No 1.

Phil Jones broke down the elite mentality of former United teammate David de Gea by suggesting that the Spaniard had “rhino skin” for his role between the sticks.

The 33-year-old ex-United and England defender highlighted De Gea’s attitude when it came to dealing with “errors,” both in training and in matches for the Red Devils.

“When I say rhino skin, he had it,” Jones told BBC Sport.

“It is ruthless in a way, but he almost had this ability not to care. He was quite blasé about the errors he made, even in training sometimes.

“But when you needed him, he was there.”

Senne Lammens must look at adopting the same mindset as Man Utd legend David de Gea at Old Trafford

Senne Lammens arrived on deadline day at Old Trafford and the 23-year-old United summer signing will now face immediate pressure at the Premier League club.

Andre Onana has already failed to live up to the high expectations that were set as United No 1 under David de Gea and struggled to effectively succeed the Spaniard.

The United No 1 spot is uncertain and Lammens, who was signed from Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.1m fee, is expected to convincingly challenge for the role in the short term.

Lammens impressed with Royal Antwerp in his native homeland, but the United shot-stopper must now adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League.

Both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have seen their United runs haunted by howlers, but De Gea’s remarkable spell is the only blueprint that Lammens needs.
