There aren’t many players in the Man Utd squad who can credit Ruben Amorim for unleashing them, but even one who can would be grateful for Michael Carrick right now.
The way Michael Carrick has reset the mood in the dressing room and filled the players with confidence has been clear to see on the pitch.
This is the same Man Utd squad written off as not good enough by Ruben Amorim that is performing at a title-winning pace since Carrick arrived at Old Trafford.
However, one player who was good enough for Amorim is also now being managed through a critical phase by Carrick.

Amad is now worth ___________
Fill in the blank!
Ruben Amorim unleashed Amad at Man Utd
So bad was Amorim’s treatment of Kobbie Mainoo that it is forgotten that before Mainoo, there was Amad in a similar situation.
Amad was to Erik ten Hag what Mainoo became for Amorim, so the reason why Carrick has a marquee forward player in the ranks is due to Amorim.
He trusted Amad in a different role that he surprisingly enjoyed, and the result was some of the best football he has played at United.
The Ivorian loved playing under Amorim, and he will always consider him the manager who truly kick-started his Man Utd career.
However, despite Amorim unleashing him in senior football at the club, it is Carrick who is now managing him through a delicate phase with absolute perfection.
Michael Carrick is helping Amad through a key phase
Before this season, Amad’s toughest time at United has been when he hasn’t played at all.
Carrick says Top 5 isn’t enough. Honestly, based on his run, do you think we are a genuine Title Contender for next season?
This is the first time that he’s playing, but there are questions about whether he deserves to play because his output leaves a lot to be desired.
This is despite Carrick pushing him further forward in his natural attacking role, so the onus is on Amad to make the most of it.
Failing that, Carrick is now being asked about Amad’s dwindling output, but he’s managing the situation perfectly by singing praises about the player’s overall impact on the game beyond goals and assists.
He said: “I think yeah… numbers in terms of goals and assists, there’s an awful lot more in a game, playing in a winning team as he has, to worry about numbers.
“I think he gives the team so much. He’s got so much talent, he’s got so much ability, but his work ethic and his attitude are fantastic as well, and he’s played different roles at times. I’m a big fan of Amad.
“I think he’s given the team an awful lot and that’s the underbelly of what goes into the performance, not just the headline grabs, that prove a team is going to be successful. Amad’s part of that.”
This is a man-management masterclass by Carrick to relieve pressure off Amad by turning the narrative in his favour.
Amad has clearly been feeling the effects of all the negative press around him and is snatching at his chances, also not taking on defenders with as much confidence.
What he needs right now is an arm around his shoulder, and Carrick’s public defence of the player will do wonders for his confidence.
If and when he comes through this phase of his career, he will thank Carrick for handling him perfectly.
