Manchester United came out 1-0 victors against Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League thanks to a Lisandro Martinez strike.
Manchester United players didn’t have the game of their lives against Fulham, but the deflected shot from United’s Argentine was enough to grab three points in the Premier League.
It was a game that further highlighted prevalent challenges under Ruben Amorim. United struggled in front of goal with no main focal point.

Rasmus Hojlund was rather woeful, and Joshua Zirkzee made little impact. It’s a shame, as it feels at the moment like one signing would make all the difference.

Viktor Gyokeres signing would fix goalscoring issues
Amorim told reporters after the Fulham game that United are struggling to score goals with Hojlund and Zirkzee and lacked ‘pace and power’.
Amorim told TNT Sports: “I think so. Even in the second half we wanted to change something, we lack some pace and power up front.”
Well, you couldn’t get a player that fits that bracket more than his former star Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres has been linked with Manchester United since Amorim took charge, and with stats like this – you can see why.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals |
| Primeira Liga | 19 | 22 |
| Taça de Portugal | 3 | 2 |
| Taça da Liga | 3 | 4 |
| UEFA Champions League | 7 | 6 |
| Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira | 1 | 0 |
| Total | 33 | 34 |
You can’t help but think bringing Gyokeres in this January would fix the goalscoring problem. However, even Amorim himself knows this isn’t going to happen.
Ruben Amorim knows he can’t make big-money signings
Amorim promised not to sign Sporting players in January out of respect for his former club and Gyokeres also doesn’t want to leave this month.

But, even if he did – Amorim knows big money transfers aren’t an option this window with PSR regulations.
Asked in his Fulham post-match interview if he expects any extra help from the remaining week of the transfer window, Amorim told TNT Sports: “We have to be cautious. Even the rules here, we have to follow the rules.
“We did [transfer] mistakes in the past, we can’t do it now. We are focused on improving the team, let’s see. Let’s focus on the players we have and focus on the next game.”
With Gyokeres rumoured to be worth around £63m, combined with United’s shaky financial situation, any sort of deal for the Swedish goal-getter would have to be formulated in the summer.
