Ruben Amorim is fighting for his future at Manchester United but the win over Chelsea can be a turning point.

Last season, Ruben Amorim was brought in midway through the campaign and tasked with overhauling Manchester United’s style of play.

It resulted in the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish, and defeat in the Europa League final meant the Red Devils also missed out on European qualification.

United fans stuck by Amorim despite his worrying record in the Premier League, and it put huge pressure on the Portuguese head coach to start the 2025/26 campaign quickly.

To make that even more challenging, Amorim had the toughest start to the Premier League of any manager.

Ruben Amorim has overcome extremely tough start

After five Premier League matches, United sit 11th in the Premier League table with seven points on the board.

Considering Amorim is expected to finish in the top six, it looks like an underwhelming start to the season.

But a deeper delve shows that United have already played three of the ‘Big Six’ teams in Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

It was statistically the toughest start for any top-flight side, and yet Amorim’s United sit level with Manchester City and are just three points off the top four.

The 2-1 win over Chelsea proved that the dressing room is still fighting for Amorim and are buying into his philosophy. Now, the challenge is to become consistent.

Man United’s upcoming fixtures pose new challenge

The statistics from the opening five Premier League matches rank United as one of the most creative sides in the entire division, but converting that into points has proven difficult.

Having survived a tough start in terms of fixtures, United’s next two matches represent an opportunity to string together a run of victories.

A trip to Brentford is up next, where summer signing Bryan Mbeumo will face his former side. After that, Sunderland are welcomed to Old Trafford.

Amorim is still looking for back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in his United career, and his side will head into the next two matches as favourites. It’s time for the Red Devils to prove they have learned from last season’s mistakes.

Consistency will be key, and this is a golden opportunity for United to build some confidence and momentum.
