Ederson is set to become the latest Brazilian import at Manchester United following an agreement with Atalanta.

Manchester United have had many Brazilian players since Kléberson became the first in 2003, shortly after winning the World Cup.

Not every signing has been a successful story, but each player has a story from their time at Old Trafford.

United have agreed a deal for Ederson, and an announcement is expected soon. With that in mind, United In Focus rates the last 10 Brazilian players to sign for the Red Devils.

What is your INSTANT REACTION to Manchester United’s deal for Ederson?

Anderson

The Brazilian who spent the longest time at Old Trafford is Anderson, arriving as a relatively unknown player after showing promise at FC Porto.

Anderson made 181 appearances during his eight years at the club, which included a five-month loan at Fiorentina.

The highlights of Anderson’s time at United include four Premier League titles, the League Cup, the Champions League and the Club World Cup. He also scored in the penalty shootout wins over Chelsea in 2008 and Tottenham in 2009, to help United win the Champions League and League Cup respectively.

Anderson may not have reached the performance levels many hoped for at United, consistently, but he did enjoy plenty of success under Sir Alex Ferguson. He was a brilliant character in the dressing room, too.

Verdict: Hit

Rafael Da Silva

The consensus verdict on Rafael da Silva at United is that of a cult hero and spiritual heir to Gary Neville at right-back.

Rafael played with fire in his belly when he wore the United shirt, which saw him become a fans’ favourite following his arrival from Fluminense.

He won three Premier League titles, the League Cup, and the Club World Cup during seven years at Old Trafford.

Verdict: Hit

Fabio da Silva

Arriving with his twin Rafael in 2008, Fabio Da Silva was unable to establish himself in the first team like his sibling.

Fabio spent five years at the club and made 56 appearances for United’s first team. He also played the full 90 minutes in the 2011 Champions League final defeat against Barcelona – the same year he won his only Premier League winners’ medal.

Verdict: Miss

Rodrigo Possebon

Rodrigo Possebon was one of three Brazilian youngsters to join United in 2008.

The midfielder made a promising start to life at Old Trafford, but an injury in a League Cup tie curtailed his progress.

Possebon made just eight appearances for United.

Verdict: Miss

Andreas Pereira

Despite being born in Belgium, Andreas Pereira opted to play for Brazil, where his father was born. He came through United’s youth teams before making 75 appearances for the first team.

Verdict: Miss

Fred

Fred joined United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 in a £47m deal before struggling to get into the team under Jose Mourinho.

That was before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found a role for Fred in the team.

He made 213 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals and registering 19 assists. Fred also left United having won the Carabao Cup in 2023.

Verdict: Miss

Alex Telles

Alex Telles moved to United from FC Porto in October 2020, but he never appeared to be the solution.

He made a total of 50 appearances with more underwhelming performances than not.

Verdict: Miss

Antony

Antony will go down as one of United’s most expensive flops, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

The winger cost £82m in a deal from Ajax before registering just 17 goal contributions in 96 matches.

Verdict: Miss

Casemiro

Although Casemiro joined United in the latter stages of his career, he was a top club servant during his time at Old Trafford.

The standard of his performances in the final five months to help Michael Carrick’s side clinch Champions League qualification was appreciated by the United fans.

It’s just a shame Casemiro didn’t come to United earlier in his career.

Verdict: Hit

Matheus Cunha

At the time of writing, Matheus Cunha has had one season at United.

Cunha was one of United’s star players throughout the season, but he will be aiming to score more goals next season to prove himself as a hit.

The former Wolves star has given United fans plenty to be excited about for the future.

Verdict: Jury still out
