Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes’ lack of self-awareness around the whole Lisandro Martinez debacle is a real eye-opener when it is compared with another Manchester United legend’s actions.
Manchester United fans have rightfully been irked by the lack of accountability from Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt over their bizarre feud with Lisandro Martinez.
Both Butt and Scholes thought they were ‘hilarious’ when they took a swipe at Martinez over his height ahead of the latest Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
Who are you backing in Paul Scholes and Lisandro Martinez’s war of words?
Paul Scholes and Lisandro Martinez have reignited their feud after the Manchester derby…
Two of Man Utd’s beloved ‘Class of ‘92’ stars had mocked Martinez by suggesting that striker Erling Haaland would ‘pick him up’ and ‘run with him’ in the match.
Martinez, on the other hand, neutralised the threat of Erling Haaland over the course of United’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League clash on Saturday.
The 28-year-old United defender rightfully bit back at the now-armchair punditry duo of Butt and Scholes after his superb performance at Old Trafford at the weekend.

Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes’ response to Lisandro Martinez is another sign of the two Man Utd legends being out of touch
If it isn’t Roy Keane’s bizarre feud with Michael Carrick, then it is other Manchester United legends sapping even the smallest amount of positive energy out of the club.
Man Utd’s sensational performance against Manchester City in the final Manchester derby of the season should have been a moment for all to celebrate amid a difficult period.
However, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes responded to Lisandro Martinez and their latest attempt to say and look clever fell even more flat on their podcast episode.
Lisandro Martinez silenced the critics to dominate Erling Haaland AGAIN
What did you think of his performance?
Sitting alongside Paddy McGuinness, who does very little to challenge the pair ever, Butt and Scholes’ lack of self-awareness to read the room came to the forefront.
Instead of simply walking back on their comments, Butt and Scholes spent more time trying to double down and defend their pre-Manchester derby remarks.
Butt called out Martinez for being “emotional” with his post-match reaction, all the while the Class of ’92 star ironically became emotional during his rant about him.

Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes should really have taken a page out of the playbook of Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand
Whether people love him or hate him for his punditry, Rio Ferdinand is the exact opposite of fellow United legends Butt and Scholes for his choice of words.
Rio Ferdinand was famously critical of Phil Jones in the past, but he was blissfully unaware of the behind-the-scenes injury struggles of his former Man Utd teammate.
Instead of trying to defend (on the mic, not the pitch) his actions to Phil Jones, Ferdinand did the admirable – and right – thing by holding himself accountable.

After inviting Jones onto his podcast in 2024, Ferdinand held up his hands and issued an on-air apology to the 33-year-old former England centre-back.
“I have to say I apologise firstly before anything; I said sorry publicly, but I’ll say it to your face this time now, for criticising you,” he told Jones on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
Unlike Ferdinand’s approach with Jones, former Man Utd and England midfielder Butt told Martinez to “grow up” on the latest ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’ episode.
For many, many Man Utd fans out there, Martinez isn’t the one who needs to ‘grow up.’ It’s more on the two Man Utd legends who can’t seem to read the room at all.
