Michael Carrick’s remaining two Manchester United matches in charge this season can benefit Ineos in a major way going into the summer transfer market.

The 44-year-old Manchester United legend has overseen 15 Premier League matches since his January appointment and has picked up 10 wins for the Red Devils.

Michael Carrick chalked up his third Premier League draw of the 2025-26 campaign after Man Utd and Sunderland played out a 0-0 scoreline on Saturday afternoon.

The United interim boss had to make key changes for the Sunderland match, with Benjamin Sesko and Casemiro both absent for the trip to the Stadium of Light.

Michael Carrick shows how important Man Utd matches are now, whether Casemiro is in the starting XI or not

Casemiro missed Manchester United’s encounter with Sunderland due to a minor injury and Michael Carrick turned to Mason Mount to play in the deep midfield role.

The 34-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder’s influence was sorely missed and Man Utd lacked urgency in the midfield area at the Stadium of Light at the weekend.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Carrick was asked if it was important to ‘assess’ the Man Utd midfield role when Casemiro is not on the pitch for his side.

The United legend hinted that it was an ongoing process looking for Casemiro’s replacement and each match that passes adds to the Red Devils’ transfer insight.

“Yeah, it’s not just totally on one game or two games, I think we’re always assessing the direction of the player we need to go,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“It’s not judged on that, but in time, you get a clear picture of what it looks like, some positives and some negatives, what we need to improve on.

“Certainly, today or next week or the week after, that’s not a [totally] decisive factor over making decisions; it needs a lot more foundations and foundations than that to make decisions over one or two games.”

Michael Carrick’s final two Premier League matches are Ineos’ best chance of tailoring their Casemiro replacement hunt

Whether or not Casemiro plays in the final two Premier League matches under Carrick is a whole different story, even if it does feel likely due to his condition.

The bigger conversation is that the five-time Champions League winner will leave Old Trafford in the summer and finding the ‘right’ replacement is so important.

Ineos had their first chance in a while to see how Man Utd function in midfield without a resurgent Casemiro alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the two-man pivot.

There is now a clear — and recent — measuring stick that Ineos can use for Casemiro’s influence with United’s final two matches in the 2025-26 campaign.

The Nottingham Forest match at Old Trafford and the Brighton fixture at the Amex are the final opportunities to fully ‘assess’ the midfield profile fit that Man Utd need.
