The first pre-season under Michael Carrick at Man Utd is set to have another absentee, but the club will be delighted.
Having guided the club into the UCL next season, Michael Carrick will start next season as the permanent Man Utd manager.
Man Utd face a crucial pre-season where they will have to balance new signings with a manager being there for the first time, with the World Cup happening as well.
Now, another absentee is added to the list, but it is an absence that will delight Carrick.

What are Michael Carrick’s three biggest priorities this summer to prepare for 2026/27?🤔
The Manchester United head coach has so much work to do…
Tyler Fletcher Scotland boost will cause Man Utd absence
The national teams have largely been confirmed for the World Cup, but they are subject to last-minute changes due to injuries.
Scotland are facing one such setback, which has opened up an opportunity for Tyler Fletcher.
Billy Gilmour has withdrawn from Scotland duty due to an injury, and after making his senior debut recently, Tyler has been called.
Fletcher impressed on his debut, and manager Steve Clarke declared he’s in prime position to be called up as Gilmour’s replacement.
Now that it has happened, he will certainly miss a big chunk of pre-season even if Scotland are eliminated early, since players on World Cup duty are given extended time off.
If it didn’t, then he would have played United’s game against Wrexham on July 18 to start the pre-season, which is one day before the World Cup final.
However, this is a unique case where Carrick and the club will be delighted at not having Fletcher with them, because he’s set for much bigger things.
Tyler Fletcher can cement a breakout season
If Fletcher makes an appearance at the World Cup, it will cement a remarkable breakout season for the midfielder who has shone at Carrington this season.
What are your expectations for Tyler Fletcher during the 2026/27 season?
Is he ready to contribute for Manchester United?
Regarded as Michael Carrick 2.0 in terms of his playing style, Fletcher won the club’s U21 Player of the Year award and made his senior debut for the club.
Carrick also gave him minutes on the last day of the season, cementing how highly the club thinks of his talents.
Fletcher is likely to go to Scotland as a squad option, but it would be a far better experience for his development than some pre-season games would have been.
If he impresses in the minutes he gets, then he will return to Old Trafford as a much more polished player capable of playing at the highest level.
