Despite it looking likely that Amad Diallo will remain at Manchester United this month, the Ivorian faces a battle to prove his importance to his manager.
In recent weeks, there have been questions over the future of Amad Diallo amid loan interest, which heightened after due to the youngster did not make it off the bench against Newport.
An impressive cameo for the Red Devils against Nottingham Forest was his last appearance for the club as a combination of illness and not being selected for the first team has meant he has been on the sidelines since.
With Antony struggling hugely for form and question marks emerging over his future at the club, despite his agent insisting on the Brazilian being committed to the Red Devils, fans have wondered why Erik ten Hag has not given Amad more of a chance.
Amad set to stay but future uncertain
As a result of his lack of game time in the first team, fans have wondered whether the 21-year-old would potentially be on his way out of United for a loan spell.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the odds of this happening are slim and the former Atalanta forward will remain at Old Trafford.
“It’s likely that Amad Diallo will stay at the club this January and have more of a first-team role,” Romano said. “Erik ten Hag wanted him to stay and it’s the same for the club, so it’s likely.
Despite it now expected that the Ivorian will remain at the club, the 21-year-old may well be approaching the last chance saloon territory.
Amad must take chance
United have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise in the summer with the Frenchman reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford over Chelsea.
If this were to be the case you wonder what the future would hold, not just for Antony but for Amad too. A hugely successful loan spell at Sunderland, which included 14 goals for the Championship side, meant fans were clamouring for the forward to be given a chance.
It’s worth mentioning that the Ivorian was very unfortunate with the injury he picked up in pre-season which has kept him out of the team for the first half of the season.
If United do make a move for Olise in the summer, Amad may well have six months to prove himself at Old Trafford otherwise, the Red Devils may opt to move the Ivorian on in the off-season, or at least, send him out on loan again.
Since joining the club in the summer of 2020, Amad’s development has been hugely hampered, sent on loans and overlooked for game time, at the expense of more expensive new signings who have not performed.
Facundo Pellistri’s future at the club will also surely be brought into question in the summer with the Uruguayan also struggling to make a name for himself.
