Thomas Tuchel is now the England boss, which means he won’t be Manchester United manager anytime soon.
Despite Tuchel’s links to United, the German is the FA’s chosen candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate as England’s gaffer, in the hope they can lift a major trophy for the first time since 1966.
Thomas Tuchel is a serial winner, with a wealth of footballing experience – and vast knowledge of English football, so he is more than a viable candidate for the role.

Tuchel’s Three Lions appointment is good news for Marcus Rashford, who will be looking to get back into England’s side following his omission from Euro 2024.
However – there is one Manchester United man who is to benefit more than the winger, given the fact it may have just kept him in a job.
Erik ten Hag biggest winner in Thomas Tuchel England appointment
As Erik ten Hag’s future looms at Manchester United, it has suddenly become a whole lot brighter for him given Tuchel is out of the running.
Tuchel was favourite to become Red Devils boss, having been heavily linked to Old Trafford over the past few weeks. Alas – just like last season, Ten Hag won’t be succeeded by the German once again.
With Tuchel now taken, the manager market is abysmal. If there were to be a next in line to the throne, it is slim pickings – which is why Ten Hag will come out of this feeling content that his main managerial rival is now off the market.
United are apparently unmoved by the news of Tuchel’s appointment – but now Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have a decision to make, stick or twist? Given that Tuchel is now out of the equation – that may make this conundrum even simpler.

What managers could Manchester United still appoint?
United’s most likely, and probably number one target, has sought out a job elsewhere – and that is nothing but music to the Dutchman’s ears.
But there are still a number of United-linked managers who could still come in and take the helm around Carrington – including:
- Gareth Southgate
- Simone Inzaghi
- Thomas Frank
- Julian Nagelsmann
- Ruud van Nistelrooy
- Kieran McKenna
- Graham Potter
- Massimiliano Allegri
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Are there many better options than Ten Hag? Another one bites the dust in this ever-so-scarce managerial market. Your move, United.
