Ruben Amorim could have had a rising Champions League-playing talent at Old Trafford who was tipped to be the ‘next George Best’ at Manchester United.
One of the famed members of Manchester United’s iconic ‘Holy Trinity,’ George Best is considered one of the best players of all time and had a superb playing career.
Best, who was one of United’s legendary No 7 shirt holders, forever etched his name in the history books alongside fellow legends Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law.
The United legend made 470 appearances for the Red Devils during a magnificent playing career and he scored 179 times for the club and registered 44 assists.
Best also lifted France Football’s coveted Ballon d’Or award during his prolific playing spell at United and was only one of four players to pull off that feat at Old Trafford.
During his time at the Red Devils, Best lifted two First Division titles and was a key part of the iconic United team to lift the European Cup in 1968 under Sir Matt Busby.
Best, whose chequered life was well-documented on the pitch and off it, tragically passed away at only the age of 59 in 2005 after he suffered multiple organ failure.
The ex-Northern Ireland international had a long-lasting impact at Old Trafford — and world football — and players have since been tipped as the ‘next George Best.’

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, dubbed the ‘next George Best,’ was linked with Man Utd and is now making a real impact at PSG in the Champions League
Manchester United were reportedly interested in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the Red Devils were told not to miss out on the 24-year-old Georgian winger.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia represented Georgia at Euro 2024 and the fast-rising player was linked with a move to Old Trafford after making a name for himself at Napoli.
However, Paris Saint-Germain beat out rival clubs to land the Georgia international from Napoli in the January transfer window for an initial fee of £59m.
The PSG star lifted the Serie A title with the Italian club and Kvaratskhelia netted 30 times and registered 29 assists in 107 appearances for Napoli before his 2025 exit.
Kvaratskhelia has already impressed at PSG and the ex-Napoli ace has scored twice and picked up three assists in 10 Ligue 1 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign.
The PSG winger has also represented the French side in this season’s Champions League and showed his incredible quality against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Kvaratskhelia, who was once dubbed the ‘next George Best,’ played the full 90 minutes and scored with a sensational strike in the 3-1 quarter-final win.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could have been the next George Best at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim could have benefited from him at Man Utd
PSG came from behind at the Parc des Princes and took control of the quarter-finals of the Champions League after an impressive performance from Luis Enrique’s men.
Inter Milan legend Christian Vieri had previously predicted that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could have been a Best-esque player for United if they had signed him.
Speaking to Bobo TV (via The Daily Mirror in 2023), he said: “The goal he scored [vs Atalanta] was the stuff of madness!
“If he goes to Manchester United, the days of George Best will return. Kvaratskhelia is the same. I can’t wait for Wednesday to see Napoli play.”
Ruben Amorim’s tactical system at United has eliminated the use of wingers, but there’s no doubt the ex-Sporting CP manager could have used him in other ways.
Alejandro Garnacho is adapting to one of the two No 10 roles under Amorim and Kvaratskhelia could have been a left-sided option under the United manager.
There’s no doubt that Kvaratskhelia has a bright future at the Parc des Princes under PSG boss Luis Enrique and United have missed out on a clear-cut Best regen.
