Plenty of positive points emerged from Man Utd’s latest win to inch closer to UCL qualification, but a squad demotion has also been sealed.
A big hump was successfully passed by Man Utd in their recent win, brushing aside a spirited Brentford side who have been a bogey team for them.
The 2-1 win came courtesy of Benjamin Sesko and Casemiro’s goals, and there were plenty of praiseworthy performances elsewhere as well.
However, amidst all the euphoria, one player’s squad demotion has also been sealed, the confirmation of which will arrive vs Liverpool.

Amad is now worth ___________
Fill in the blank!
Michael Carrick will drop Amad from Man Utd XI
Of all the players in the Man Utd squad, Amad is probably in the minority in terms of enjoying his football more under Ruben Amorim than he does under Carrick.
Despite playing as a right wing-back, the Ivorian was playing some of the best football of his career as he relished space in front of him.
Restored to attacking spots by Carrick, he has struggled to match the same heights, with the recent nadir coming in a half-time sub against Brentford.
It can be argued that Amad wouldn’t even have started the game were it not for Matheus Cunha’s injury, and by the time he came off, he vindicated that thought.
He missed multiple clear-cut chances, strayed offside in desperation for a goal, and made the wrong decision every time as he tried to force his way out of his slump.
His slump is also coming at the worst possible time, because Cunha’s injury is not reported to be serious, Shea Lacey is unstoppable for the academy, and Patrick Dorgu’s return is imminent.
His half-time sub against Brentford was tactical, but his bench place against Liverpool won’t be.
Liverpool game will confirm Amad demotion
Amad has been a model professional for every manager who has worked his way through multiple loan spells to become United’s key player.
Who should drop out when Patrick Dorgu returns?
Does he get back into the starting team immediately?
Having said that, he’s clearly feeling the effects of his poor form, as the killer instinct and fearlessness in his game has disappeared.
Sometimes, it’s best to work away from the glare of the first team when you’re going through a rough patch, and United are fortunate to have options in this position.
Gary Neville also expects him to drop out against Liverpool on the Gary Neville podcast.
He said: “I think Michael Carrick will probably look, if Cunha is fit, I think he’ll go with Cunha, Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, and Sesko. I think he’ll go for that four potentially.
“I’m not sure Amad will play.”
As said above, Cunha, Lacey, and Dorgu can all come into the team and prove to be upgrades on Amad.
Even for Amad, a spark plug role off the bench could be just what he needs to get back into his groove.
He’s clearly a great player with a potentially world-class ceiling, but working through a slump is part and parcel of football.
His journey should start with a demotion from the first XI against Liverpool.
