Man Utd shouldn’t give up on Aurélien Tchouameni if Real Madrid star is available

Manchester United’s patience could be rewarded if Aurélien Tchouaméni leaves Real Madrid this summer. The France international, for multiple reasons, is the perfect signing to complete the midfield rebuild.

The transfer window is well underway. Manchester United have completed deals for two central midfielders as they prepare for life without Casemiro following the Brazilian’s free transfer to Inter Miami.

Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea and made his first appearance in United’s 1-0 defeat against Wrexham, whereas Youri Tielemans signed from Aston Villa but has yet to link up with the first team due to his 2026 World Cup commitments.

It remains to be seen who United will sign to complete the rebuild, but the club’s patience could be rewarded if Real Madrid opt to cash in on Aurélien Tchouaméni.

Aurélien Tchouaméni is the ultimate Man Utd midfield target

Although reports earlier this summer claimed Tchouameni had agreed a new contract with Real Madrid, there has been no formal announcement.

Real Madrid may be waiting for the France star to return to pre-season training after playing a key role in Didier Deschamps’ final World Cup campaign as national team manager, though it still seems a bit odd to wait at a time the midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

It doesn’t bode well for Tchouameni that Real Madrid’s links to Man City midfielder Rodri have intensified since Spain were crowned 2026 World Cup champions.

All of this means United could be waiting patiently to see if there are any developments when the former Monaco ace returns for pre-season training.

Tchouameni is the perfect United midfielder target for three key reasons: age, potential availability and pedigree.

The 26-year-old could become available if Real Madrid sign Rodri, and his pedigree speaks for itself, having started in a World Cup final and won the Champions League.

Man Utd shouldn’t complete midfield rebuild with stopgap options

United have ignored the need to bolster the midfield department for years and became reliant on a Casemiro who had lost his legs.

As good as Casemiro was, the Brazilian veteran had his faults.

Settling for second-rate midfield signings like Sander Berge often leads to needing to find an improvement three or four years down the line.

That needs to change, and the only way to do that is by signing the best transfer targets out there.
