Manchester United are looking to significantly bolster attacking options in 2025, with a distinct lack of goals now affecting Ruben Amorim.
This season in the Premier League, Manchester United has only scored 21 goals, which has cost them plenty of points.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 13 | 17 | 6 | 4 | 7 | 21 | 22 | -1 | 22 |
However, this has not been through a lack of creativity or chances, as United game missed the sixth most big chances in the league with 33.
This figure is joint with Spurs, which is just behind the likes of Arsenal and Bournemouth.
Last weekend in a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, United missed four big chances and had an expected goals tally of 2.28 – dwarfing the cherries’ tally of 1.63.
Due to this, it is little surprise that a new starting level No.9 is being eyed by Ineos, however, the option now being linked is one Jason Wilcox must steer clear of.

Manchester United chasing Victor Osimhen
So with all the goal-scoring issues presenting themselves within Old Trafford, we can understand why adding an elite goalscorer could be tempting.
Well now, with days remaining until the January transfer window opens, Sky Sports Switzerland and reliable journalist Sacha Tavolieri are reporting that Victor Osimhen is an option.
Osimhen is a long-term United target and is now once again being looked at according to the report.
United are believed to be keeping an eye on the Napoli forward who is on loan at Galatasaray right now, with personal terms not expected to be a problem.
Napoli would look for £62m in order to sell Osimhen.
United in Focus also understands that Osimhen has been offered to the Red Devils via intermediaries, with the same people claiming that they can help United move one of their three current strikers as Graeme Bailey explained.
It is understood that United likes Osimhen, but financially the deal for the striker with nine goals in 11 Super Lig games is not easy to do – with wage demands in excess of £250,000-a-week and the £62m asking price.
Why Ineos must reject £62m signing
Signing a player like Osimhen is an exciting move, but only on paper with the Nigerian being a disastrous signing in the making for United.
One reason being that the deal does not indicate smart new recruitment at the club, but instead seems like a deal we would have witnessed under the Glazers.
The previous footballing structure signed big names with no real thought process behind it. Signing Osimhen would be a similar move.
Over the past two and a half seasons, Osimhen has missed 31 games through injury – with 60 being missed in the three seasons prior.
This does not bode well for a move to United, especially with his injuries mostly being muscle-related including fatigue, strain and ‘problems’ this year alone.
At 25, such a terrible injury record signals a torrid time as he grows older.
This is a deal Ineos must avoid.
