The 26-year-old Cameroon international has netted 10 times across all competitions and picked up three assists in 23 matches for the Red Devils in his debut season.

Bryan Mbeumo is the apex example of what Jamie Carragher has discovered about Gary Neville’s important Man Utd remarks

Bryan Mbeumo has been able to show his incredible versatility for Manchester United since his stunning 2025 summer move from Premier League side Brentford.

The Cameroon ace kicked off the season in a right-sided No 10 role under Ruben Amorim before shifting to the lone striker position under Michael Carrick.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher broke down the latest transformation of Mbeumo as part of Carrick’s tactical approach to Man Utd in recent weeks.

The 48-year-old Liverpool legend admitted that Mbeumo is the type of player that Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville argues what a Man Utd footballer ‘should look like.’

“Yeah, he’s come in for me as almost like a right winger or a right-sided forward in the Amorim system,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

“And I was surprised to see him go through the middle. But for me, he’s been one of the best signings in the Premier League this season.

“And he suits Manchester United. I’ve heard Gary Neville so often describe what a Manchester United player ‘should look like.’ And it feels like it’s him. Huge spaces, huge pitch.”

Michael Carrick has been the key to shaping Bryan Mbeumo to fall in line with the so-called ‘Man Utd DNA’

Benjamin Sesko has dropped to the bench as a result of Carrick tossing out Amorim’s polarising Man Utd system after his stunning return to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old Slovenia striker has impressed as an impact sub in recent weeks, while the Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes partnership has finally taken shape.

Bruno Fernandes was restored to his No 10 role under Carrick and has put into place where the ‘DNA’ of the club’s counterattacking football can flourish.

Speaking on Mbeumo, Carragher added: “But someone who can get you up the pitch with power and pace.

“And yes, this is a counter-attack [against Manchester City], but you’ve got the two wingers initially, Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 position.

“But the power and pace from one end of the pitch to the other in Mbeumo and finish [against Man City]. And that’s what he can do, he’s been absolutely fantastic.”

Mbeumo has become the perfect symbol of United effectively finding the right players that fit the profile of the Red Devils and identity of their playing style.
