Erik ten Hag sure has splashed the cash so far as Manchester United manager.
The Dutch manager so far has made a total of 16 signings at the helm of Manchester United, of which some have been a roaring success, and some ultimately a failure.
He also hasn’t been afraid to dig deep in his pockets. Antony, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund all broke the bank at Old Trafford.
Another expensive signing from Ten Hag certainly hasn’t been worth his weight in gold so far as a United’s first-team squad member.

Mason Mount value has plummeted
On the 6th of July 2023, Erik ten Hag made his first Manchester United purchase of the summer 2023 transfer window with the acquisition of Mason Mount from Chelsea.
United completed the signing Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55m, which could be set to rise to £60m in future.
Mount has since played just 12 games for Manchester United, with a measly 627 minutes under his belt.
This has led to his market value depreciating – rapidly. CIES Football Observatory presents players across the world with their ‘ estimated transfer value’ – to which Manchester United’s have been revealed.
Mount is listed there with his value as €30m (£25.8m), which is a net loss of £29.2m. More than 50%. As of the time of writing, that’s just 190 days. Yikes.
Mason Mount has struggled so far
It looked like a strange transfer at the time, given Mount was going to be a free agent in a year – but as the days tick by this signing looks worse and worse.
Ten Hag may not have made a mistake acquiring Mount, but the transfer fee paid will continue to raise more than a few eyebrows.
Despite his undeniable talent shown in previous years at Chelsea, this was simply far too much to pay for an out-of-form player whose contract was set to expire. Ten Hag needs to take the hit for this.
However, there is still hope. Mount has been out with injury and United fans still have not seen the best of what he has to offer. Does his career at Old Trafford begin in 2024?
