Man United must use £50 million star in swap deal, selling him in January would be a mistake

Manchester United have a right-back conundrum amid surprise interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Since Erik ten Hag joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022, the right side of the defence has been one of the biggest headaches for the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have been fighting it out for that coveted spot in Ten Hag’s team and during his 18 months in charge, each of them has had an extended run in the first team, without either being too far ahead of the other.

This season, Dalot has played regularly but has often had to fill-in at left-back and recent reports have stated that Wan-Bissaka is attracting interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. United will have a decision to make.

United’s Wan-Bissaka dilemma

Wan-Bissaka has played just 12 Premier League matches for the Red Devils, missing several weeks due to injury, whereas Dalot has featured in 19 league games this campaign.

Yes, United could feasibly sell the defender to the Pro League this month and considering Spurs turned down a £20 million offer for Emerson Royal from Al-Nassr, according to the report, the Red Devils should be able to make a healthy sum of money.

However, the deal that should hold greater appeal to the powers that be at Old Trafford is any potential swap involving Michael Olise.

Olise has been linked with the Red Devils in recent weeks with a potential player plus cash deal being mooted. With competition from other top sides in the Premier League bound to be high, however, using Wan-Bissaka in any deal would be a smart move.

Selling Wan Bissaka and simultaneously solving their issues on the wing would be a very smart move and the exact type of deal that Ineos should be looking for.

Wan Bissaka’s time at the club

The Englishman was brought into the club during the summer of 2019 and has been a good performer for the Red Devils and has arguably been one of the more consistent signings United have made.

Dalot has proven this campaign that he can be relied upon for the Red Devils but there is also room for improvement. Why not take a look at another right-back, instead of Wan-Bissaka.

HITC Football revealed that United were scouting Jeremie Frimpong during Bayer Leverkusen’s recent Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig, so Dalot may not be first choice in the summer after all.

Signing Olise, who has scored five goals and provided one assist in the league this campaign, whilst selling Wan-Bissaka would be a very smart move from the Red Devils.
