£19 million Man United ace has to be in running for Player Of The Year award, he was exceptional again v Wigan

One Manchester United player in recent weeks has impressed the fanbase more than most and this player’s future has looked uncertain in the past.

Right-back has been a position of concern for the past year of Erik ten Hag’s reign at Manchester United with two players fighting it out for that spot in the Dutchman’s first team.

After a good run from Diogo Dalot in the first half of the 2022-2023 season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka won his spot back in the United first team with a string of superb performances, including in the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United.

This season, however, Dalot has been moved over to left-back with Wan-Bissaka at right-back and the Portuguese defender has put in a string of brilliant performances.

Dalot’s exceptional performance

With Luke Shaw once again absent from the United first team with a presumed injury, Dalot was picked again to start on the opposite side to what he would be used to against Wigan Athletic and he was almost flawless.

During the victory at the DW Stadium, Dalot won 100% of his tackles and completed 96% of his passes in the game and was forming a dangerous wing pairing with Marcus Rashford.

He completed 100% of his dribbles, made two key passes and won 80% of his ground duels and scored a superb goal that got the scoring going for the Red Devils.

He was taken off with seven minutes remaining of the 90 and was given a rousing reception from the boisterous away following who continue to support the Red Devils up and down the country.

Dalot in running for Player Of The Year

At the start of the season, had someone told you that Dalot would have been in the running for the club’s player of the year award, you surely would have laughed.

Well, here we are in January and the Portuguese left-back has been one of the club’s most consistent performers and should be in the running for the award at the end of the season if he carries on his reliable performances for the Red Devils.

Some people may laugh at that suggestion but the reality is that the former FC Porto defender has proven he can be relied upon in an attacking, and defensive, sense.

Perhaps come the end of the season, the defender will not be in the running for the award but at this moment in time, the 24-year-old deserves to be in the mix for the prestigious accolade.
