Manchester United have missed out on some incredible players over the years, but one example has proved not to be much of a miss.
Despite spending lots of money over the past decade, arguably, the Manchester United side not sign would be better on paper than the actual team.
Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Moises Caicedo, and Jamal Musiala are all players United either missed out on or snubbed the chance to sign before they became the stars they are today.
However, not all players United were linked with went on to be successful elsewhere, with one Liverpool signing example of that.

Manchester United won’t regret not signing Jeremie Frimpong
In 2024, United stepped away from signing Jeremie Frimpong, with Noussair Mazraoui arriving instead, which was a frustration at the time, with the then Bayer Leverkusen wing-back a very exciting talent.
So when Frimpong signed for Liverpool for £30m, Rio Ferdinand was annoyed because he argued the Dutchman was perfect for Amorim’s system.
However, Frimpong’s start to life at Liverpool has been a bit of a disaster.
Currently injured, Frimpong’s form has been woeful, leading him to start three of the nine games since the transfer window closed. He was also an unused substitute in two games.
Signed to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, Frimpong is a terrible fit, being so different from the English right-back, and instead has found himself far from first choice.
It would appear Liverpool are regretting their decision to sign him, and United will feel they were spot on to steer clear.
Jeremie Frimpong stats 2025/26
This season, Frimpong’s struggles to adapt to the Premier League have been pretty clear as he has only played in four games, starting just one and averaging 25 minutes per game.
Frimpong is an attacking full-back, but has created just one chance for Liverpool this season in the league despite playing with two mega-money strikers.
On the flip side, Frimpong offers very little defensively, and when he’s played, there has been a massive vulnerability down the right side of Liverpool’s team, which has rippled through the entire XI.
Things could still come good for Frimpong at Liverpool, but if it does, chances are it won’t be in the full-back role he was signed to bolster; instead, he will have to reinvent himself.
A waste of money for the Reds, while United will be glad.
