Jose Mourinho gave strong verdict on Man United ace in 2019, he has been proven right

When Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United empire looked to be falling apart in March of 2018, the Portuguese manager delivered a memorable press conference.

Manchester United had just been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla and Jose Mourinho, the then-Red Devils boss, was on the warpath.

Mourinho was keen to lay down the law and explain how successful he had been at Old Trafford and made a startling point about players he sold.

“See how they play, if they play,” Mourinho said on players that he had sold in an extraordinary rant. This gave the impression the Portuguese manager never had any regrets about his decisions but one rare decision he made at Spurs, which he regretted, proved to be correct.

Jose Mourinho proven right over Christian Eriksen remorse

After his sacking at Old Trafford during the midway point of the Premier League campaign, Mourinho was given the Tottenham Hotspur job after Mauricio Pochettino.

One player who had just months remaining on his deal in North London was Christian Eriksen, who has transfer interest from Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan during the January transfer window.

In the Amazon Prime documentary about Tottenham called All Or Nothing Tottenham Hotspur, Mourinho was visibly frustrated about the prospect of losing Eriksen.

“You are an important player for us,” Mourinho said of Eriksen during a meeting with Daniel Levy but the Dane would not heed his advice and would move to the San Siro.

Mourinho is clearly a big fan of Eriksen with the Portuguese manager admitting he cried and prayed for the Dane after his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 for Denmark.

Since then, Eriksen has been at Old Trafford and he once again proved Mourinho right with the Dane netting the opening goal during United’s 1-1 draw against Fenerbache.

Christian Eriksen proving doubters wrong at United

Eriksen looked set to move away from United this summer but the Dane remained in the North of England and has been one of the club’s most important players.

Despite Manuel Ugarte being brought in, and Kobbie Mainoo excelling, this has not deterred Eriksen from excelling and breaking back into the United first-team squad.

This current campaign for United and Erik ten Hag has not been a good one for the club with the Red Devils sat in midtable in the Premier League but Eriksen certainly deserves credit for his renaissance and has proven Mourinho right yet again.
