Jobe Bellingham is only short-term fix for Ruben Amorim, another standout Man Utd target is built for long term

Jobe Bellingham has been linked with Manchester United and Ruben Amorim must remain focused on the long-term project over the short-term results at Old Trafford.

The brother of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, who was once linked with Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham has been in his shadow.

Jobe followed in the same footsteps as Jude Bellingham and made the summer move to his brother’s former side of Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of £27.8m.

Dortmund’s deal included a further £4.2m in add-ons for Jobe, who had made a real name for himself during Sunderland’s Championship campaign last season.

Bellingham made 43 appearances across all competitions for the Black Cats last season and he netted four times and registered three assists for Sunderland.

However, the 20-year-old former Sunderland midfielder has failed to light up the world so far in the early stages of his Dortmund playing spell this season.

Man Utd linked with Jobe Bellingham and tipped for an approach for Borussia Dortmund star

According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are considering a potential loan move for Jobe Bellingham in a bid to reinforce their midfield options this season.

Bellingham has played in 13 matches for Borussia Dortmund across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign and he has netted twice for the German side.

However, the United-linked midfielder has only made two Bundesliga starts in eight matches and has neither scored nor assisted in the league season so far.

Bellingham would offer United a short-term fix to the midfield problems within Ruben Amorim’s tactical system during the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

Ruben Amorim has mainly relied on a two-man pivot of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro and the United midfield has been vulnerable at times this season.

However, United have appeared better in recent weeks after going their last three matches without suffering a Premier League defeat after tactical tweaks from Amorim.

Man Utd should scrap their Jobe Bellingham plan and put their full focus on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton

Jobe Bellingham’s arrival in January at Old Trafford – if it happened – would only paper over the cracks for a long-term problem that faces Ruben Amorim at the Red Devils.

United manager Amorim is likely to lose Casemiro next summer after his contract expires and the Red Devils midfield is in serious need of major reinforcements.

Instead of fixing something in the short term with an unknown quantity like Bellingham, United’s focus should be on securing Adam Wharton in 2026.

A January transfer move for Adam Wharton is more or less out of the question, with the highly rated Crystal Palace midfielder under contract until 2029.

But United should see out the 2025-26 campaign and wait until next summer before testing Crystal Palace’s resolve with a move for the 21-year-old midfield talent.

Ineos have already shown why United should be looking for more proven Premier League players with the major signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Wharton could fit effortlessly into the long-term vision at United and the England midfielder’s experience at Selhurst Park is invaluable for the Red Devils.
