Ineos must apply their own transfer rule to Julian Nagelsmann during manager search

Julian Nagelsmann has been linked with the Manchester United job and is likely Michael Carrick’s biggest competitor.

While Michael Carrick remains the favourite to land the permanent Manchester United job in the summer, Julian Nagelsmann has been linked as one of the favourites.

However, Nagelsmann is managing in the World Cup in charge of the German national team, which has caused concern among club chiefs.

Additionally, GiveMeSport report that Nagelsmann has applied for the Real Madrid job, and that should end United’s interest entirely.

Where does Julian Nagelsmann rank in Man United’s new manager shortlist?

Would you be concerned of his similarities with Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag?

Man Utd must now end Julian Nagelsmann interest

If Nagelsmann has his sights set on the Madrid job as his priority, then United should be walking away, even if he doesn’t end up in charge of the Spanish side.

Last summer, Ruben Amorim spoke of a new transfer ‘rule’ at United which put added emphasis onto the character and mentality of new arrivals.

Signings Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo rejected clubs, even those in the Champions League, in order to join United.

United need players who are wholly committed to the long-term project being built under Ineos, and the same has to apply to the head coach appointment in the summer.

If Nagelsmann is more tempted by the Madrid job than the United role, then that should immediately end his chances of being hired at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick will put Man United first

Unlike Nagelsmann, Carrick’s sole priority is doing whatever is best for the future of Manchester United.

Already this season, Carrick has spoken about making decisions for the club’s long-term future, regardless of whether he is sticking around or not.

For Carrick, the United job is the pinnacle of football management, and he has already proven he can mix it with elite Premier League managers this season.

If the summer choice is between Carrick or Nagelsmann, Ineos have an easy choice to make.
