Ineos have aced the transfer market but their statement signing faces make-or-break season now

The transfer market is where Ineos’ impact has been the most, relative to their predecessors, but with an asterisk over that marquee man.

Including this one, Ineos have overseen six transfer windows at Man Utd, and revamped the attack and the defence during that time.

The midfield will be taken care of this time, and they have earned enough trust of Man Utd fans that the right thing will be done.

That trust is based on past successes, but the 2026/27 season will provide the final judgement on their statement signing.

What are your expectations for Leny Yoro’s Man Utd career?

Leny Yoro was Ineos’ arrival on the scene at Man Utd

Patrick Dorgu was Ineos‘ first signing at Old Trafford, but looking back on it now, Leny Yoro was the first player Ineos signed who signalled their arrival on the scene.

The circumstances of the deal were so unique. United didn’t really sign teenagers under the Glazers for record prices.

More importantly, they rarely won transfer battles, especially when they were fighting against Real Madrid.

Ineos put all their eggs in the Yoro basket, stealing him from under the noses of Real Madrid in a marquee deal worth nearly £60m.

It was a bet on Yoro’s potential, and was a statement of intent from the new owners that United were back competing in the market among the elites.

The end of the 2025/26 season marks the second year of Yoro at Man Utd. He still has age on his side, but the jury is out on him.

Yoro needs a breakout 2026/27

So far, Yoro’s Man Utd career has been a case of not very good, not very bad, glimpses of world-class potential, mixed in with moments of horror.

Injuries have also stopped him from getting momentum in his stride, but the next season needs to be his arrival on the scene.

Ahead of him are Harry Maguire, who is winding down his career; Matthijs de Ligt, who’s recovering from a serious injury; and Lisandro Martinez, who’s become injury-prone.

The right-sided centre-back spot is there for the taking by the scruff of its neck and hold it down feasibly for the next decade.

He has benefitted from Maguire rolling back the years, which means he has been able to fly under the radar and learn with cameos here and there.

Entering the third year of his deal next season, United need more than a project who needs to be brought along carefully.

He needs to start showing what made United beat Madrid to his signature to earn more patience from the fans. This needs to be the season of Leny Yoro.

Considering the question marks over the players ahead of him, that could define how United’s season is.
