Ineos correcting a major Glazer mistake is setting Man Utd up for the next decade

Since taking over part-ownership of the club, Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe haven’t had the best of times at Manchester United for both, on and off-field reasons.

From Ruben Amorim’s patience with the squad wearing off after regular losses to the ownership team’s less-than-ideal decisions in the name of cutting costs, the euphoria of “not the Glazers” has well and truly worn off.

Although that is slightly understandable, it is also true that Ineos are biting the bullet for Glazers’ errors.

Not all of the previous regime’s errors can be fixed in an instant but Ineos have already made a strong start to correcting a major one.

Ineos fixing Glazers’ mistake

To make a list of Glazers’ mistakes at Manchester United would require a novel, let alone an article but any start made towards it should be welcome.

Not all of Ineos’ measures have been positive, especially to fix the financial mismanagement but Glazers’ errors were as much on the field as they were on it.

A major one, which Ineos are well on their way to correcting is a targeted effort to set the club up for the next decade by being proactive in the market.

It started with a statement move for Chido Obi in the summer from under the noses of European elites and is now set to get a new addition to the list.

Man Utd are aiming to sign Ayden Heaven from Arsenal in a repeat of Chido Obi trick and now more than ever, those signings are crucial to the club’s blueprint for success.

Man Utd fans will always remember the club scouts bringing reports of the likes of Lucas Bergvall or Moises Caicedo before they exploded onto the scene.

The Glazers were then busy fixing the holes in the senior squad with expensive, short-term fixes instead of relying on a cohesive long-term strategy.

Ineos have come in and immediately identified it as a problem, taking steps to resolve it, one statement academy signing at a time.

It goes without saying that youth development is never linear and predictable so it might well happen that none of Ineos’ young signings pan out and establish themselves in the senior team.

However, that is a good problem to have as United at least have the tools to succeed now.

With the likes of Chido Obi, Samuel Lusale, Hubert Graczyk, Sekou Kone, and potentially Ayden Heaven arriving through the door in just six months, United have added plenty of stardust to an U18s side that won three trophies last season!

United are in a precarious financial position, making it difficult to splash the cash mindlessly on marquee players, so playing the long game is the right choice.

Amorim looks in it for the long haul, he likes to promote young talent, and Ineos have given him plenty of young talent to choose from.

The present might look dark, with the potential to get worse even, but the future has never seemed brighter.

Ineos deserve credit where it’s due.
