Manchester United’s new investors Ineos are making bold decisions early on and lining up some additional funds.
This January has not been ideal for Manchester United, with the club currently looking unlikely to bring in any new faces.
This is due to spending restrictions, which have meant United’s transfer window could be limited to solely outgoing moves.
And this is an area where United have tried to be as active as possible, lining up exits with future incomes streams.

Manchester United active with exits
One of the ways Manchester United can free up resources in the summer is to start being ruthless with fringe players and sell them on.
Clubs are reluctant to spend in January, which has led to United having to settle for loan deals, which could later prove to be rich streams of income.
Jadon Sancho‘s value could soar if he stars for Borussia Dortmund during his loan spell. United may still be able to recoup a fee of around £50 million in the summer.
There is an option in Donny van de Beek‘s loan for the German club to sign him at the end of the season for £11 million.
If there was a clear sense these two players needed to go, two further departures are proving more controversial.
Alvaro Fernandez is set to join Benfica on loan with a buy option clause at around £8 million, Fabrizio Romano reports.
Hannibal Mejbri‘s loan to Sevilla will also include a buy option, with United set to net £17.5 million at the end of the season, The Mail report.
The Red Devils may be able to buy Hannibal back at a later date, per the agreement, but in the short-term, this is additional income.
Fernandez and Hannibal are talented players, but ones who have been unable to establish themselves as regular starters.
United are making an aggressive call now to line up extra income for the summer.
Deals for Hannibal, Fernandez and Van de Beek could line up a combined £36.5 million.
Then lets say Sancho is sold for an additional £50 million – the fee The Mirror report United are looking for, then suddenly there is an additional £86.5 million to play with.
Add in the savings on Sancho’s wages, plus Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial‘s salaries coming off the books, and United are clearing the decks for incomings.
Lining these deals up early, Hannibal, Van de Beek and Fernandez at least, gives some potential early clarity heading into the summer, rather than having these situations drag on until late August.
Ineos’ next step
The problem for Manchester United has not always been generating the money. It has been how poorly it has been spent.
United have spent money so poorly in recent seasons, and Ineos are planning to hire a new head of recruitment.
The Standard report Paul Mitchell is the club’s lead candidate for the role, with up to four new signings being sought in the summer.
It is claimed a Harry Kane level striker is wanted, along with a midfielder, centre-back and a right-back.
All the right steps are being taken. Ineos will be judged on how well they execute in the summer.
