Jack Fletcher is Manchester United’s newest first-team regular, playing the entire second half against Newcastle’s usually strong midfield.
With the injury list at Manchester United a long one, Jack Fletcher’s step-up into the senior side has been expedited.
The 18-year-old was far from brilliant and struggled at times with the pace of Newcastle’s midfielders, but he still earned praise from Ruben Amorim.
“He’s really humble, works really hard, and deserves to make his Old Trafford debut”.
Who was the Manchester United man of the match vs Newcastle? ⭐
Let us know your choice and why!
Fletcher clearly has lots of work to do before being properly ready to dominate games for United, but that is no shock for an 18-year-old, as he is eight years away from his prime.
But there is a clear reason behind Amorim’s decision to make the talented attacking midfielder a two-time appearance maker for the club.

Jack Fletcher has earned Ruben Amorim’s trust
Over the past few weeks, Amorim has made it clear that he won’t just be playing academy players for the sake of it. But Fletcher seems to have earned the head coach’s trust and is getting the game time to match.
I was concerned when Fletcher emerged for the second half, with Mason Mount withdrawn due to injury at half-time.
WHAT did you think of Jack Fletcher’s performance against Newcastle?🤔
Not because I don’t think Fletcher is ready, but Newcastle are a tough team to play against with a very physical team, making it a tough outing for any player, let alone an 18-year-old making his second appearance in senior football.
Fletcher was far from perfect, struggling to get on the ball, and when he did, he wasn’t ready for the speed at which he needed to use it before being pressed.
But it will have been an invaluable learning experience in a game not played to his strengths.
Fletcher held his own in United’s 1-0 win over Newcastle.

Jack Fletcher knows he needs to improve for Manchester United
Fletcher has come into two really tough games for the start of his senior career at United, making it all the more impressive that he has coped.
But the fans and Fletcher will know that his early performances of learning and bedding in need to improve, and speaking with MUTV after the match, he admitted this.
“I think it might take a while to adjust to the tempo and intensity. It was really tough out there, heavy on the legs, 45 minutes of defending, I think we did well. Hopefully, I can showcase my talent more.”
Most players don’t just immediately play to a high level, as it usually takes time and growth, and I can see Fletcher already doing enough to prove that his development will come.
United play Wolves next, a game where Fletcher might be in line to start as a number 10, and here he can properly prove himself with plenty of chances on the ball to make things happen.
Fletcher has been an all-action number eight under Amorim, but that should change against Wolves, which can help him show more of his ability.
