Manchester United are now looking for a new permanent manager after firing Ruben Amorim.
At this early stage the list of potential candidates feels a little underwhelming. Oliver Glasner, Enzo Maresca, even a return for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
A top number one candidate is yet to emerge, so I am going to take this time to suggest one guaranteed success.
Prove me wrong… Carlo Ancelotti should be Ineos’ top option to become permanent manager this summer!
Do you think Ancelotti would be a success? Do we stand a chance of getting him?
Bring me Carlo Ancelotti
There is one standout candidate Manchester United should be targeting, and that is current Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Of all the potential appointees, there is nobody I would feel more confident in than Carlo Ancelotti, a proven winner, who would instantly turn United into Premier League title contenders. And if United can qualify for a Champions League place, bet on him transforming the team into a genuine threat in the competition.
Ancelotti has a list of honours that is comparable only to Pep Guardiola in the modern era, with league title wins in different countries and Champions League success.
He has won titles in England, Italy, Germany and Spain, along with five Champions League titles – two with AC Milan and three with Real Madrid.
His most recent full season with Real Madrid saw Ancelotti win the La Liga and Champions League double in 2023/24.

At 66, Ancelotti still has more to offer and has even taken a little time out from the day-to-day pressures of European football, taking over as Brazil manager.
He won the Premier League and FA Cup double with Chelsea in 2009/10, narrowly beating Manchester United to the title.
Unlike the model of hiring young coaches who are ultimately unproven outside of their own countries; (Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim), Ancelotti is proven at the very highest level.
Speaking in 2015, Sir Alex Ferguson told Football Italia: “Carlo Ancelotti is one of my good friends and also one of the best managers the game has seen.”
And speaking to United In Focus last month, former referee Mark Clattenburg claimed Ancelotti would become the greatest manager of all time if he can lead Brazil to World Cup glory later this year.
Ruben Amorim’s BIGGEST MISTAKE at Manchester United was ________________
✍️ Fill in the blank…
Timing would be tricky, but worth the wait
Carlo Ancelotti has a contract with Brazil that runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup. While they could try to extend his deal, Manchester United could make a very appealing pitch to land him.
The timing could make the situation a little tricky, however, as the World Cup Final takes place on July 19.
While there is a delayed start to the 2026/27 season, there would not be a lot of time for Ancelotti to work with the Manchester United players. It would be a similar situation to the one Louis van Gaal experienced in 2014.
However, if there is one coach who could deal with this, it is Carlo Ancelotti, a manager who has proven he is adaptable, and a winner at the very highest level in club football, multiple times.
If there is a chance to bring him in, then the delay, the wait, will all be worth it once he finally arrives.
