Harry Amass was once more a standout for Manchester United during the 5-0 friendly win over Rosenborg on Friday evening.
After the frustration of losing to Wrexham, Manchester United beat Rosenborg 5-0 this week to kick pre-season preparations up a gear.
Once again, the story of the game was academy players stepping up to the plate and taking their opportunity with seriously impressive displays.
Shea Lacey, Harry Amass, Jacob Devaney and Ethan Williams all scored, with Jaydan Kamason taking two assists in what was a big win for Carrington.
One of the biggest successes was Amass.

Harry Amass is seriously challenging Luke Shaw for left-back role
Amass was brilliant against Wrexham, and he was almost even better for United this week against Rosenborg. The left-back shared minutes with Luke Shaw, coming off the bench at half-time to score and get an assist in what was a statement performance.
It was telling that Carrick only made two substitutes at half-time, Jaydan Kamason as the only natural right back and Amass to replace Shaw.
Amass played 45 minutes and his performance was far better than Shaw’s in the first-half. The levels between the pair is actually quite surprising and it is clear to see that Amass offers more to United in 2026.
We all know Amass is Shaw’s long term successor, but few could have predicted he would take charge during pre-season and actually challenge for the starting berth immediately. Which he is currently doing.
Amass has been so impressive, with his intensity, speed, athleticism and energy all better than Shaw. In turn this means he is more effective in the final third, able to overlap consistently.
Carrick now has a real decision to make, whether he is ready to move Amass ahead of Shaw in the pecking order. Because on this summer’s efforts it would be a move on merit.

Coming into the summer, there was a hope that Amass would manage to establish himself as the Luke Shaw understudy and avoid another loan, but this view has quickly become outdated.
After two pre-season games, Amass has made it clear he is not just here to settle to play as the back-up but he wants and is ready to succeed Shaw immediately.
Due to his pre-season, it is vital that United sit down with Amass this summer and make it clear that the position is his and that he needs to sign a new contract this summer, to avoid him leaving for free next summer.
Amass is ready to make the jump. He might have even been ready 18 months ago when he first debuted for United. But the time on loan has made him a much better player to the point that it feels inevitable he will play a key role during the 2026/27 campaign.
The Amass take-over is happening right now. Don’t be shocked if he gets the time with the ‘first-choice’ side next weekend.
