The euphoria around Ruben Amorim “not being Erik ten Hag” has well and truly worn off with each negative result but the patience will be afforded to him.
Ruben Amorim is Ineos’ own man and they have staked their reputation on their first managerial appointment, a luxury not afforded to Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman has been fairly silent since leaving his post as the Man Utd manager, with Ten Hag’s name linked to odd jobs at Feyenoord and Borussia Dortmund but nothing come off it.
He’s given his latest interview now with some frank Man Utd admissions but one will catch the eye, especially in light of what’s happening at the club under Ruben Amorim.
Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd admission
So far, Ten Hag and Amorim’s tenures as Man Utd managers have been polar opposite of each other.
Ten Hag had a brilliant debut season that had many fans convinced that he was the one to turn the club around, only for it to crash and burn, barely limping to the third season.
Amorim, on the other hand, arrived as a borderline messiah but was immediately engulfed in a dysfunctional and chaotic mess.
Ten Hag, in a recent interview with SEG Stories, his management agency, admitted that he won’t take a job until the new season but in the meantime, the thing he misses the most is Old Trafford.
Unlike Amorim’s tenure so far, Ten Hag had a strong record at home, particularly during his first season where the team won 15 of their 19 games, losing just one.
In contrast, Amorim has already lost five home games despite being in the job for about four months. Therein lies his top priority at the club.
Ruben Amorim’s priority is to make Old Trafford a fortress
The days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being convinced that the Stretford End sucks the ball in for the team feel like a lifetime away.
Currently, the spectre of Old Trafford seems to loom large over the players’ tiring and uncertain bodies, who seem better placed to perform away from it.
That should never be the case for a Man Utd team whose successful foundations have been built on domination at home, hence the “Theatre of Dreams” moniker.
The transfers will take care of themselves, and the off-the-pitch changes will start to show effect in the long run but being strong again at home is a complete non-negotiable and needs fixing as soon as possible.
Ten Hag knew how special it was to him, hence his admission. Amorim needs to restore that feeling that’s eroding with every negative result at the iconic stadium.
