Manchester United fans kept a close eye on the performance of transfer target Elliot Anderson during Saturday’s draw.
It is no secret that Manchester United want to sign a central midfielder in 2026 after failing to address their lack of strength in the summer.
United have been linked to Elliot Anderson as one midfield option, with Nottingham Forest expected to demand around £75 million for his signature.
After three Premier League wins in a row, United drew 2-2 to Forest on Saturday, and Anderson impressed at the City Ground.
It was the kind of performance that could linger in the minds of Ruben Amorim and United’s transfer team heading into 2026.

Elliot Anderson succeeded where Carlos Baleba failed
Last season, Matheus Cunha starred at Old Trafford in the lead-up to his £62.5m move to United. In many ways, it was as if the Brazilian had passed an audition.
In contrast, midfield target Carlos Baleba struggled against United last week as Brighton lost 4-2 at Old Trafford.
United were ready to bid for Baleba over the summer but ultimately decided to wait until 2026. Baleba’s poor start to the season has cast doubt over United returning to the table.
While Baleba failed to impress, Anderson certainly caught the eye during the draw against Forest.
In terms of United’s plans in 2026, Anderson might have climbed above Baleba on Ineos’ shopping list.
The 22-year-old has been mightily impressive for both Forest and England this season. While Baleba is being impacted by United’s interest, Anderson appears to be thriving.
Elliot Anderson should be Man United’s 2026 priority
Amorim wants an athletic midfielder to strengthen his options, and Anderson ticks all the boxes.
Not only has the Forest star proven he is among the best midfielders in the Premier League, but his performance against United showed Amorim that he turns up in the biggest moments.
Considering Anderson is only a few months older than Baleba, he still fits Ineos’ transfer strategy of signing young, future superstars.

In terms of value, Brighton held out for over £100 million for Baleba, while Anderson could be available for much cheaper in the summer.
There will no doubt be competition from other top-flight clubs, including Anderson’s former side Newcastle United. But United showed over the summer that they are still a very desirable spot for new signings, and qualification to Europe would only boost the chances of luring top players.
