Diogo Dalot repeated exactly what he was slammed for doing before, he’s becoming a liability

Diogo Dalot was hauled off in Manchester United’s draw against Nottingham Forest.

One of the perplexing decisions in recent weeks has been Ruben Amorim’s continued faith in Diogo Dalot.

Dalot was incredibly fortunate to keep his place after the 3-1 defeat to Brentford, retaining his place at left wing-back ahead of Patrick Dorgu.

This might be about to change after another disappointing performance in United’s 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Dalot lets Man Utd down

Diogo Dalot let Manchester United down at the City Ground. He was too slow to react to a cross that led to Nicolo Savona scoring.

Dalot was guilty of the same mistake he was slammed for in the loss away at Brentford. He was caught ball watching, and hoping that one of his teammates would deal with the problem instead.

Instead of being an active participant in defence, Dalot was caught out by a sharper, more aggressive opponent, who was more decisive getting on the end of a second ball.

It followed one of the goals United conceded against Brentford, where Dalot was slammed for ‘ball watching’.

Danny Simpson told MUTV: “You got to smell danger, as a defender you have to think worst case.”

A few games on, and Dalot was culpable of making the same error, allowing Forest to score a goal to go 2-1 up.

Ruben Amorim was spotted having words with Dalot in the first half against Forest, and substituted him in the 68th minute.

Manchester United fans were frustrated by Dalot’s display, pointing out that there have been ‘too many’ instances where he has defended poorly and cost the team goals.

Give Patrick Dorgu a chance

It is a little bemusing how Patrick Dorgu has fallen out of favour at Manchester United in recent weeks as a starter.

Dorgu was a standout performer in preseason, and provided an assist in the win at Old Trafford against Chelsea in late September.

He did start against Brentford, with Dalot on the other flank, but since then he has been a substitute for four successive games.

United are unbeaten over those four, but this seems to be despite Dalot’s inclusion rather than as a direct consequence of him playing.

Dalot is becoming a liability, a player who is becoming left behind by the raised standards the rest of his Manchester United teammates are producing.
